Hey everyone, I currently have a 40 gb PS3 and my buddy is getting a 80 gb PS3 with B/C and he doesn't want the B/C and said we could switch PS3s. He just wants the 80 gb harddrive for more storage, well I don't think I can just plug and play with this harddrive, I'm pretty sure the PS3 will want to format the harddrive, please tell me I'm wrong. But currently I'm trying to back up all my game saves and I can not get Motorstorm 2 to copy to a USB stick, it says it is copy protected, is there any way around this? Thanks...

No problem. There's an excellent article stickied on this forum detailing how to swap out the hard drive on a PS3. I swapped out my 60 gig drive for a 320 gb unit, and it worked perfectly. Just make sure you have a really good electronics screwdriver, otherwise you'll quickly strip the screws holding the HDD enclosure.
If you've got the funds, now is the perfect time to grab a larger hard drive before doing the swap. The less times you have to go into your PS3, the better. Here's a link to the hard drive swapping guide. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=37467 |

Why not grab a flash card, external reader/wrighter and copy the game saves-not the installs...just where you are in game transfer it to another ps3
and re-install the games you still play. I have a 60gb with the flash readers built-in and simply use a mem stick from a psp to transfer/copy stuff-i even found a micro sd to mem stick adaptor so i can transfer digital pics/movies from my camera to ps3 and even psp. |

If all your worried about is the game saves and have protected saves delete everything in every folder of the system except the game save folder and you should be able to fit the back on a 4GB memory stick or less. I had to do this when I upgraded my PS3 HDD the first time. |

But not with the Motorstorm 2 saved games. Like we have said, it is copy protected so only the backup utility works. If you have a large enough flash drive or iPod it may work by backing everything up to it.

I would like a "what do you want to back up" option. I can redownload my games anytime so there is no reason to do a full back up when all I may want is my pics, music and game saves...maybe a future update from Sony will give us this option as more people updgrade their hard drives.
