Default LOTS OF GOOD NEWS: HDMI 1.3 JUNE!, BLU RAY MOVIES ON Windows XP!!

From an insider:
=============================

As we are just discussing this, a few positive notes:

- AACS 1.0 should be finalized in June. (We will see what "managed copy" really IS...)
- HDMI 1.3 should be finalized in June, or not much later. (Will allow the direct transmission of TrueHD/MLP, DTS-HD etc. via HDMI. The video color bit-depth will be extended, etc.)

And the best: It seems increasingly likely that they will allow the playback of HD discs (HD-DVD AND Blu-Ray) even on Windows XP. (With the right applications, "WinDVD BD" etc.)

Interpretation: It is not mandatory to provide the protected AV paths within an OS, it can be done on application level.

This also means that HD playback should be possible on Linux. (Of course, not on "open source" playback software.)

Best,
Stefan

P.S.: Intervideo and Ulead should have received significant help in this.
