Default Problems with Kubrick DVDs

Hey guys I have a small problem I bought both Eyes Wide Shut and Clockwork Orange. Niether one would play when I got them home, I looked and there was a firmware update for my BDP-1000 I didn't have. No problem right? So I updated the firmware. Still no play, it goes to the loading screen with multi-colored balls then ejects the disc. I have tried the discs on other players and they work just fine. Has anyone had this problem or any advice you can give? Thanks.

Are you taking about DVD's as your title suggests or Blu-ray versions of those two movies?

Well, if those 2 movies have BD+ protection or were produced like Fox' FFROTSS and The Day After Tomorrow then you're out of luck as of right now. As I understand it only the BD-P1200 and BD-P1400 have gotten firmware updates to be able to play them. I heard people who own the BD-P1000 still can't play them.

Once again it is just conjecture on my part, but if the new WB movies have those extra added protections then you'll have to wait until Samsung issues another firmware for the BD-P1000.

Samsung always seems to be behind in releasing firmware updates for their players.

I own the Samsung 1000 all the firmware updates and have had some minor issues with playback. It will spit the disc out and say it can't read it then I'll just put it back in and it will work fine. Sometimes it will spit them out, sometimes it won't. Depends on whatever it feels like doing.
I have watched Full Metal Jacket and The Shining and skipped through some of 2001 on it with no problems.

Spec wise there doesn't seem to be any difference between the dvds...this really makes me wonder why mine won't play them. Are you using the 1.2 firmware?

I recently loaded the latest firmware update from Samsung for the BD-P1000. It plays the Fox titles (FF:ROTSS, The Day After Tomorrow) perfectly.

I have not gotten any of the Kubrick BDs yet, so cannot speak to any specific problems with those discs. I suspect, however, that they don't pose any new problems and the latest firmware will address the situation.

I believe that the original poster should recheck to be sure that they have the latest firmware update. Remember, it has the same file # on the download page at Samsung.com, but it has the later revision date listed.

Good luck,

Lee

Correction: When I look at the actual properties of the ISO file it says it was created on october 10th. The player said the update went through is there a way to check the actual version on it though?

Other than the date, I don't think you can check the version yourself unless you call Samsung tech support.

When you load the CD-R into your player, the message will be "Verifying firmware" or similar. The version currently installed in your player will be be displayed, and the version # of the firmware on the disc will also be shown. You can compare the two to be sure that you have what you think. If they're the same, you can simply choose to not update and the disc will be ejected without incident. Of course, you can go ahead and try the update again (see next note).

Occasionally, the player will not update all of the firmware when you start the download. You might try re-loading the new firmware disc and going through the whole process again. You should also be sure that you burned the entire file to your CD-R.....

If you burned your update disc after 10/10, you have the latest version (it's the only one available on the site now, it seems).

Sorry that you're having trouble. Stick with it, you'll get in fixed.

Yes, you're right. How stupid of me to forget. Now I remember seeing the firmware version when I popped in the disc last time I updated mine. I have the Philips player (BDP9000) but it's virtually indentical to the BD-P1000.

Not stupid at all. The support of the forum community has guided me through several things that I either couldn't remember or didn't know to begin with. Getting all the aspects of home theater right entails a HUGE body of knowledge, and I've certainly appreciated the assists from others here.

It's all about forgetting the hardware and enjoying the experience it provides.

There is a more recent update from October that you need to get. Click here to go to Samsung's update page and scroll down to the bottom. It doesn't have a new version number, but it's labelled as Oct 12, or something similar. Try updating to that firmware and see if it helps.

He printed this correction about the firmware date a few posts above. Apparently, he has the latest version.
