Been researching a topic for a friend and found something that really caught my interest. Donkey Kong II.
![]() A modified 3rd(elevator) level, plus 4 new levels. I have a Donkey Kong cabinet with a non-working board and I may pick this up to install in it. Would be nice to have a working Donkey Kong game again. ![]() http://www.arcadeshop.com/multi-pcb/dk2/dk2.htm DK II.jpg |

I wish I had the money to either buy a cab or had the elctronics know how to make a super gun. one day I hope. I've already bout Virtua Fighter Remix and Virtua Fighter kids carts for STV Sega Titian Video just need the rest sometime. Also been having my eye on a Willow cab that's close to me but I have no means to haul it or keep it at the moment since I'm in an apartment.

I know a guy that has one of those and it's a pretty good design. He bought it back before the PS3/Xbox 360 came out so it has the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube in it. I've offered to do the updates to it to make it PS3/Xbox360/Wii compatible, but he's just fine with the older systems...

A few new additions.
I recently picked up a Gorf and a Kick arcade machine. The Gorf was in pieces awaiting a restoration and I got it dirt cheap, I just need to rebuild the joystick and it should fire right up(I played it for a couple minutes outside the cabinet). The Kick game works except for the monitor(hopefully it's a cheap fix also). And I also have a Track & Field waiting on a new monitor(On it's way). Gorf.JPG Kick.JPG |

What's the slowest machine needed to run MAME comfortably? I'd like to get a cheapo machine and connect it to my main viewing area to have access to the games and nothing else.
Any software out there that will Boot to say a MAME program that can be navigated with a joystick? I purposely bought a Tournament Edition Fightstick for MAME...don't use it often enough. btw MAT MANIA !!!! ftw!!! |

Right now the PC boots to MAME and I use the joystick to navigate in program. I keep an old wireless keyboard and mouse on top of the cabinet for "emergencies" though. ![]() |

It doesn't take much to run MAME smoothly. Both of my MAME systems have decent Pentium 4 processors, but I remember back in the day when I first had MAME (early 2000s), it ran well with a computer I had that was several years old at the time; from long before the P4 days. You can get used PCs with P4 CPUs and probably all kinds of other goodies for under $100. I remember earlier this year I reformatted an old IBM NetVista with a 2.4GHz P4 inside and 512MB RAM, and sold it for $100. That PC (like most) had a built-in video card on its motherboard that outputted high-resolution over VGA, which means easy integration with your HDTV -- if you want to go that route. I've had very little success with any of the frontends out there that are designed to manage emulators. I'm not sure if it's my initial configuration after install, lack of patience, not wanting to RTFM, or what...but I do know that it's never just a plug and play situation, at least in my experience. As Rob71 stated, you can set up Windows to run MAME at startup so that when you power up, it goes straight into MAME. Then just make sure you've configured MAME to allow for joystick controlling while in the GUI (also very easy to do). |
