Playing safe, I opted not to post the link to Zophar's. Granted, they don't host images, just the emus.

Incidentally, is it ok to take certain topics to PM?

Been researching a topic for a friend and found something that really caught my interest. Donkey Kong II.

A modified 3rd(elevator) level, plus 4 new levels. I have a Donkey Kong cabinet with a non-working board and I may pick this up to install in it. Would be nice to have a working Donkey Kong game again.

I wish I had the money to either buy a cab or had the elctronics know how to make a super gun. one day I hope. I've already bout Virtua Fighter Remix and Virtua Fighter kids carts for STV Sega Titian Video just need the rest sometime. Also been having my eye on a Willow cab that's close to me but I have no means to haul it or keep it at the moment since I'm in an apartment.

If you guys don't have the time to build your DIY Arcade Cabinet, maybe you should consider this:

And then ask Rob where to find some cool artwork and it will look like a genuine Arcade Cabinet.

I know a guy that has one of those and it's a pretty good design. He bought it back before the PS3/Xbox 360 came out so it has the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube in it. I've offered to do the updates to it to make it PS3/Xbox360/Wii compatible, but he's just fine with the older systems...

Cool to have some feedbacks. I might consider it one day, since we are getting more Classic Arcade Games on the PSN. The only downside is the 2 players set-up. I already have Gauntlet II, Rampart, Championship Sprint and Rampage World Tour as 3-player games.

Man, I love me some Donkey Kong. I used to be really good that that game, but I totally suck now. I don't know what the heck happened. Most video games for me are like riding a bike, but for whatever reason I lost my DK skills.

I've been playing Stargate a lot lately since I picked up a machine. Man did I suck the first few weeks. The Williams machine have a pretty loud amp, and stargate has some pretty annoying sound effects. Especially when the sound pot on the amp goes to FULL volume with no warning.

So I'm impatiently waiting for a new sound pot to arrive so I can turn the volume on again. I'm getting a lot better though, Those controls take some getting used to.

My favorites lately: Vampire Savior and X-Men vs Street Fighter. Luckily my HRAP 3 SA stick works with them.

A few new additions.

I recently picked up a Gorf and a Kick arcade machine. The Gorf was in pieces awaiting a restoration and I got it dirt cheap, I just need to rebuild the joystick and it should fire right up(I played it for a couple minutes outside the cabinet). The Kick game works except for the monitor(hopefully it's a cheap fix also). And I also have a Track & Field waiting on a new monitor(On it's way).

To those of you guys playing Arcade Games on a PC, how does it work accessories wise? I'm dying to play Chase H.Q. and Super Off Road but would any PC driving wheels work with racing games?

What's the slowest machine needed to run MAME comfortably? I'd like to get a cheapo machine and connect it to my main viewing area to have access to the games and nothing else.

Any software out there that will Boot to say a MAME program that can be navigated with a joystick? I purposely bought a Tournament Edition Fightstick for MAME...don't use it often enough.

btw MAT MANIA !!!! ftw!!!

I want to say I tried to configure one racing game in MAME to work with my G25 wheel, iirc the pedals worked, but the steering did not

Really? That sucks. I wonder if it would work with an "official" game, I mean if I get Midway Arcade Treasure for PC and try to play Super Off Road. On Logitech website, they list all PS3 and PS2 compatible games but no listing for PC, so I assume that means it works with every games.

I use my Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 SA joystick with MAME all the time. Mostly for Capcom fighters from the 90's But I've used it with other (older) games as well.

My MAME cabinet right now is using an old Pentium II PC. I'm doing an upgrade soon though because I'm wanting to put some of the newer PC games on it also.

Right now the PC boots to MAME and I use the joystick to navigate in program. I keep an old wireless keyboard and mouse on top of the cabinet for "emergencies" though. There are a lot of front end programs for MAME that might work for your specific needs, been awhile since I tried any of them.

What Rob71 said!

It doesn't take much to run MAME smoothly. Both of my MAME systems have decent Pentium 4 processors, but I remember back in the day when I first had MAME (early 2000s), it ran well with a computer I had that was several years old at the time; from long before the P4 days. You can get used PCs with P4 CPUs and probably all kinds of other goodies for under $100. I remember earlier this year I reformatted an old IBM NetVista with a 2.4GHz P4 inside and 512MB RAM, and sold it for $100. That PC (like most) had a built-in video card on its motherboard that outputted high-resolution over VGA, which means easy integration with your HDTV -- if you want to go that route.

I've had very little success with any of the frontends out there that are designed to manage emulators. I'm not sure if it's my initial configuration after install, lack of patience, not wanting to RTFM, or what...but I do know that it's never just a plug and play situation, at least in my experience. As Rob71 stated, you can set up Windows to run MAME at startup so that when you power up, it goes straight into MAME. Then just make sure you've configured MAME to allow for joystick controlling while in the GUI (also very easy to do).
