Default Universal blus skipping and freezing... anyone else?

The past few weeks Ive watched several movies on my samsung BDP1500.
A few of the disks have given me so much trouble Ive stopped watching the movies. The movies seem to momentarily freeze then skip ahead about 1-3 seconds causing gaps in the audio. Its almost like streaming and having to wait for a buffer.

I noticed today that of the 12 movies Ive watched this past week the 3 that have given me problems were ALL Universal releases.

Serenity - every min and a half to 2 Min's
2 Fast 2 Furious- every min and a half to 2 Min's
Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift -minimal but still annoying interruption

I have the latest firmware update.

Anyone else have similar problems with Universal releases?

I'll be honest with you. Samsung players were made to cause trouble and they won't help their customers to resolve the problem because they believe digital downloads will take over; which is bunch of horse ****. Get a Sony BD player, they have quality players and they treat their customers with loyalty.

By the way, I've never had skipping or freezing issues with my PS3 while watching those movies.

I'll try to say this with a little bit more tact than some other members have demonstrated.

Samsung is highly regarded for their TVs, but more than a few owners of Samsung blu-ray players have experienced issues and reported numerous problems. When I read the original post, my mind immediately went to the player. I don't personally own that player, but I have read many posts about it. I won't tell you to get a PS3, because I know that people can get irritated about that approach as well. I will tell you, however, that you may be better served to upgrade to a more reliable blu-ray player. Sony does have some good ones, among them is the PS3. There is also the Oppo (both the BDP-80 and BDP-83) which can rival the PS3 in terms of loading speeds and picture quality, and best it in terms of DVD upconvert and audio. You have several quality options to consider. In my opinion, you will continue to have issues with the Samsung player that will only irk you down the road. Given your collection of movies, I think you'd be well served to get a high-quality player that won't give you any issues.

I'm not happy with my player but thats another story. It just seems odd to me that of the numerous titles Ive watched this week alone only universal titles give me problems.

Before you update your player to the latest firmware ,did this problem exists in the first step.if exists posting your fear is better get response from experience users using the dedicated thread for this player in Blu-ray players section.

If it doesn't happened before latest update, probably it's a firmware issue another one will fix it.

Again reconsidering buying a Blu-ray player is highly recommended and choosing among Sony,Panasonic or Oppo

I've rarely had issues playing my blus. None that I've purchased have skipped or froze. However, some that I've gotten from netflix have had issues, simply because the level of use. The most recent was Pride and Prejudice, a Universal title. I think it has more to do with the disc itself than your player or the company.

the only problem i had with the player was that it stopped reading DVDs

When I saw the title of this thread, I immediately knew the OP was using a Samsung player. They are notorious for having issues with many titles.

What’s funny is that they can easily fix problems via firmware update, but never do so because either they don’t care or they just don’t know how. But every year, new Samsung players come out and new issues just keep on arising. I wish Samsung would just give up manufacturing Blu-ray players if they can’t get it right. They have great HDTVs, but people are going to stop buying their TVs as well because they’ll be so afraid to buy another Sammy product again after owning one of their BD players.

My Samsung Blu Ray player bit the dust after 6 months. I won't get another one. The Samsung TV has been flawless for almost 4 years.

It sounds like the Blu-ray laser might be going in your player. Try to test the troublesome BDs on a friend's working player. If they play fine, your player is likely going to die soon.

well I have the latest update so the player tells me no update is needed. IDK how to erase the current update or overwrite it and try again though.

My player was out for service 2 times back in Feb/march. While doing a firmware update the player just shut off and wouldn't ready any disks. I had to send it to Samsung for repair. The service had ran out in December but they extended the coverage period for the repair. When it came back it made this god awful squealing noise when disks would load after being put in the player or if I skipped sceens. The noise would last in periods excess of 20mins each time. It also now has a habit of audio drops when watching Anime titles during high action sequences- as if its too much info to process or something.

All in all I will never buy a Sammy product again. Customer service was great however its back from the 2nd repair and still problems. I had a feeling it might be the player- i just found it odd that its only with Universal titles.

Funny thing is when watching Serenity it skipped no less then 8 times in the 1st 12 mins. I paused the movie and wrote this post. 20 mins later I went back to resume play and did so without any problems... WTF

I strongly disagree with that. They have some very good sets out there, but not the best. Maybe top 3...

But I would get away from the Samsung player. It does seem like people are having constant issues with them. It seems that after Universal added their ticker feature, Samsung's players have had nothing but issues with Univeral titles.

I had a Sammy TV once. It was a great TV, however the color RED was so strong it bled into the image even when turned down in the settings. I had service pick it up and keep it for 2 weeks to bring it back with the same problem.

I used to sell TVS and I found Toshiba and Samsung to be the best BANG for the buck in terms of what features/quality you get for what you pay. However since then times changed and LCD and Plasma are leading the way where CRTs used to dominate.

I think my next TV will be a Pioneer Kuro in the far off future lol. Unless something else comes along in the mean time.

But back to the player. Ive been wanting a new player for some time now. I just don't know what brand to seriously look into.

Everyone says PS3... which only makes me want to stay away from PS3. As I am not a Sony fan at all.
