Should we be shopping at Amazon??

I hate to offend this forum with the following logo, but it was the first thing I saw on the amazon homepage today.

I'm getting irritated by amazon's favoritism of HD DVD. Should we be shopping at amazon? Have you ever checked out their comparison page for High Def? They leave out a lot of Blu-ray specific features and make HD DVD actually look good!

as long as they sell bluray for less than the stores...I will continue to shop.

lets face it, hd-dvd is grasping at straws...not really concern who favorites what...the people have already chosen. (even with the lack of favoritism)

i still shop at amazon but i have noticed that they are pushing hd dvd a bit more than blu ray... like in their recommendations to me since i buy blu rays they suggest transformers... bournes.... basically hd dvds... it doesnt get to me that much but i see why people would be confused

This is advertising and promotional dollars at work. Amazon could care less who wins.

I never have gotten one of those buy hddvd things from amazon, but they keep try to get me to buy Tranformers on STD & RoboCop on Blu.

Think of it this way... Amazon is selling Blu-ray like crazy, regardless of their advertising. Just look at eproductwars.com and you'll see for yourself. But, at the same time, they probably have an abundance of stock on HD DVD titles that are collecting dust in their warehouses. Any good retail business will push unmoving inventory to the forefront in order to get rid of stock. But, knowing that they have to waste so much other advertising potential in order to do so will make them simply stop carrying larger quantities of said item once stock diminishes. I see this as a good sign that Amazon wants to get rid of their backlog of HD DVD quantities. Once it finally happens, then they will drop the so-called "favouritism" approach to the format.

At least, I hope this is the case.

Hmmm, never noticed this myself, I'll have to keep an eye on that, that would irritate me, but I think that they just have to put those ads up more, because HD-DVD just ain't sellin'.

I got a promo HD-DVD flyer in one of my orders and hit the ceiling. I called the # for customer service and *****ed at some girl in INDIA for sending it in my $200+ order of BR movies. I got a $25 credit for their mistake.

While their advertising certainly seems to favor HDDVD, I think that they are most pleased to sell either format as long as it is selling. Although, I have noticed that sometimes using their search function and using the words: (Name of Movie), blu ray; I have been directed to the HDDVD release! I now just use the links in bluray.com to find movies I want from Amazon. And the reader comments over there, don't ever read these...it'll raise your BP!

I ordered from them during BOGO sale and for a second thought that I was being screwed due to buying BDs. What happened was that I ordered 5 movies with the plan to get five free. But for some reason I forgot to enter my last free movie for a total of nine. Then I could not access my order as they said my order was already being processed after just a couple of minutes.

But thankfully, they have a link where you enter your phone number and their staff will call you. I was able to void that whole order and do it right.

So yes in some respects It seems like ordering in the HDDVD camp's backyard. But the savings, the fact that I am a long time member, and the few problems I have had will keep me sending my $$ there.

I've never shopped for BD's at amazon.com; however, I do browse through them, and have noticed they seem to like HD-DVD more.

I just like supporting the local stores really. I would say I should start shopping on Amazon, and those already shopping through them, buy more from them. As long as they sell Blu's we should be trying to show them what the consumer really wants are Blu-rays, not HD-DVD.

I do agree that Amazon seems to favor HD DVD. Perhaps it's just that Toshiba has chosen Amazon as one place they throw money at for advertising.

I've started to purchase more at Best Buy, due to being a rewards member, but I'll still buy from Amazon some.

I would like to see them fix their "comparison" page though as it's not very accurate.

Amazon is the least expensive place to buy Blu-rays considering they don't charge tax and shipping on orders over $25.00. I will continue to buy from them.

Your point would normally be very sound and valid, but Amazon actually doesn't warehouse much of anything anymore. Their "stock" is defined by what is available through the various distributors they have product drop-shipped from, because Amazon's inventory is tied into those databases. For media--like books, movies and music--they go through top-tier distributors like Ingram.

The reason why many retailers and e-tailers promote both products is (a) because there is no official "winner" and thus they do not want to alienate any potential customers/earnings (can't fault them for that), and (b) because laws regarding promotions for competitive products are very ambiguous in the USA and their legal department is probably telling them to give "equal time so we don't get sued/accused of favortism", since they haven't outrightly gone exclusive one way or the other.

I love Amazon and pretty much buy my BDs there exclusively.

Like many, I am a Prime member and LOVE it. I have on average at least 3 packages come in every single week. If the $80 dollar prime membership got applied to my "shipping" costs, it would have run out within weeks.

So, if Amazon throws in a couple of advertisements now and then, even for HD-DVD, I really don't mind. If that allows them to continue offering prime and other benefits such as $1.99 extra for next-day delivery (some orders), more power to Amazon.

Everytime I see a HD-DVD ad in my BD order I can't help thinking that Toshiba is paying Amazon to give me a great deal on the shipping of the BDs. (Via their advertisements which go straight into the trash).

Not only does Amazon have an excellent selection, rock bottom prices, fast(big warehouse in Dallas, so free shipping takes like 2 days) and free super saver shipping, BOGO sales, excellent return policy(had a defective ipod, notified them, received a replacement overnight and had a month to return the defective one)----hello and www.eproductwars.com website makes Blu sales look great!!! Think about this!!!!!!
