Thumbs up Pixar: Should we be worried about the sequels that are being done?

Recently Pixar have announced that Monsters, Inc 2. will hit theatres on November 16th 2012 making this there third sequel in 2 1/2 years. So do you think that the amount of sequels Pixar are producing a is a good thing for the company and audiences?

The current list of upcoming Pixar movies looks like this:

Toy Story 3 - Summer 2010
Cars 2 - Winter 2011
Brave (previously The Bear and the Bow) - Summer 2012
Monsters, Inc. 2 - Winter 2012

Meaning we would have on average three sequels in about 2 1/2 years, which seems rather bold for the company that never does sequels. So should we be worried that Pixar are running out of originality or do you think Pixar will pull through with this.

In my view I think that they will easily pull through on this as John Lassester is possiblely the greatest person in animation at this moment and if he feels that these sequels will work, then I see no reason as to why they won't be good.
It also seems that each sequel has a genuine reason for being made:
Toy Story 3 had been knocking around for a number of years, and so it seemed only natural for a second sequel to come out since Toy Story 2 had been produced, and it Toy Story is still extremely popular and so audiences want to see another adventure, as do Pixar I'd guess.
Cars 2 is being produced mainly because one of Pixar's greatest contributers, Joe Ranft, died during production on the first film and so John Lassester and the rest of Pixar felt it was only natural to produce a sequel in his memory.
Monsters, Inc. 2 is likely being made because Pixar wanted to revisit some of their older characters for a second outing and see what happened after the first movie, and in my view Monsters, Inc. is one of the best to choose for a sequel, along with The Incredibles.

I'm really not worried at all, because it is clear that Pixar are not doing this just more money, far from it, since they are doing a sequel to a movies that is 11 years old by the time they're released. And if they were just trying to cash-in on their movies they would pick more recent ones so people would recognise the characters better.

There is my view, sorry it was so long, but I felt that this needs to be adressed properly. What do you think about the Pixar sequels, and don't forget there is one orginal film, Brave, slap bang in the middle of all the sequels.

I don't quite get why all the worries about Pixar sequels. They already proven they can do a sequel which is even better then the original with Toy Story, Lassiter is still running the show. The only thing for them is that the bar is high, very high and what I do see happening is them reaching a level that they can't top. It might happen and at this point people will go "sh1T Pixar suck, they are not as good as they use too" instead of just appreciating the level of movie quality they are offering compare to some of the other animation studios.

I think it's because that was 10-11 years ago and now they're doing a load all at once, and that was just one movie, but yeah Lassester is an absoulute genius and so I have no worries what so ever.

There come's a point also where ideas (original ideas are not as easy to come up with) and so in order to continue your business you go back to some of older characters and see if you can't find new stories for them.

That is a sad fact.

I just hope Pixar never gets to the point of releasing crap straight to video sequels like Disney.

I called this way back in what, 2006 or 2007 when Disney purchased PIXAR.

While Jobs and Lasseter had stated they hated doing sequels, and both have some pull at Disney, ultimately, I'm betting Disney is looking at the all mighty dollar.

The one saving grace is that I think Lasseter and company will do his best not to make a crap ass sequel.

My question though, why no Incredibles sequel. That's the one movie I think out of PIXARs lot that would make sense for a sequel.

Well they will never do that as John Lasseter is now head of animation at The Walt Disney Company and he himself put a stop the the direct-to-video sequels once he joined; The Little Mermaid: Ariels Begining was the last direct-to-video sequel. Strangely enough Toy Story 2 was originally designed to be a direct-to-video, but then Disney said they wanted it theatrical and so less than a year from release they scrapped the whole story and started over agin; nice bit of movie trivia for you.

I think that they may have regretted having said that now or changed their mind, which could be one of the reasons why they are doing so many all at once, and as I said, I don't think it is mainly for money from Pixar's point of view because when they get round to releasing two of their movies, the first films will be 11 and 15 years old and if it was just about money they would choose more recent movies that audiences can recognise better. It is John Lassester who makes the decisions on what gets made as he is the head of animation at Disney and Pixar, and he believes souly in great storytelling.

I have a feeling that a sequel to The Incredibles will come round at some point, but not immediately after A Bug's Life 2. I would guess it will come out around 2015/2016, which is a long way off but it may well eventually happen.

I have a very strong feeling we will defintently see a sequel now that Pixar have been bold and decided to tackle sequels to some of their other movies.

No Worries!!! PIXAR sequels will be carefully planned to entertain and showcase the creative writing that they always have... It is not like they are shoveling out a mass amount of direct to DVD sequels or originals like Disney... Pixar's track record is impeccable and it's future projects should be anticipated not dreaded... Cant wait for Toy Story 3, Monsters Inc., and Cars 2!!! PIXAR ROCK ON !!!

The one and only thing I'm saying in this thread is Cars 2 IS NOT being "mainly produced" because they wanted to honor someones memory. Pure bull

I usually worry about sequels, but not from Pixar. They have an excellent track record, and I feel that they will not release a bad movie. These sequels will, most likely, be more than just slapping a 2 or 3 on the title and let the money roll in despite the quality.

Even the 'worst' Pixar movies are better than what most other studios produce. No worries here. Just want to see an Incredibles sequel!

It is, I've read alot of interviews from various places and it is true. Note that I used the world "mainly", not "only".
