Don't go over to blue instead.
Go to blue as well.

Until the format war is over, it will double your access to movies.

The Sony 500 is nice.

Whatever it is make sure it's a "Full Profile" player.

I still think the PS3 is the best Blu-ray player available.
It has a HDD, it has internet, it has the latest updates, it supports BD-j, it is also a game system, and it support 1080p and HDMI, and it the most inexpensive model BD player right now at only $399.

Yeah, I still think the PS3 is one of the best players. There are some tradeoffs versus a standalone but the PS3 will be updated to profile 1.1 soon and most likely profile 2.0 eventually. Anyway, seems like the safest choice and it's also one of the faster blu-ray players (i.e. shorter load times, etc.).

Can't go wrong with the PS3, and you essentially get a free next gen. game console, and wifi.
Almost obscene power: http://www.wired.com/print/techbiz/i..._supercomputer
Check out what cnet has to say about the PS3 in the paragraph after the editor's note below the picture of the remote: http://reviews.cnet.com/game-accesso...tag=prod.txt.2
The numerical score is just for that one remote, not the PS3.

Only catch is... if you get a PS3, get the remote. Some people don't like the Blue tooth remote, but I love it. The only draw back I see to it is that you can't use a Universal remote with it, but i never use a universal remote anyways cause they always lack the buttons I need. But the remote really helps, and it adds a lot of functionality to the player.

I'm hearing great things about the Panasonic DMP-BD30. Full profile, fast load times, streaming advanced audio, quiet, cool, secksy. I read that it should be on shelves mid-Nov with MSRP of $499. Anyone seen a street price?

I agree, I really like the remote and disagree with cnet's low score.

I think it would be better if we knew what kind of a budget you are working with. We can recommend the most valued player at that budget.

What is full profile? I dont remember the A2 or any HD player having that., What does the full profile mean. I was thinking of the Ps3 or Samsung - Blu-ray High-Definition Disc Player Model: BD-P1400 or maybe Sony - Blu-ray High-Definition Disc Player Model: BDP-S300.

The players are being released in stages and it wasn't required to have the full-profile until Oct. 31 (anything after is supposed to be 1.1).

Here is a thread discussing the profiles:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...hlight=Profile

That's why I think the PS3 is the most flexible player. It can be updated to profile 1.1 (and most likely 2.0). If you want the features that 1.1 provides (and you don't want a PS3), it'll be necessary to wait for some of the upcoming 1.1 players.

HD DVD players won't be fully up to spec until they support the newly announced, untested, undeveloped, non-studio supported, TL-51 discs.

I'm just kidding around to rile up the lurkers and trolls.

Full Profile is the most compatible BD player. It does the PiP that HD DVD is popular for. It is expected that the PS3 will have full support for PiP and Internet interativity while being lightning fast. It is by far the best bargain if you aren't set on a standalone.

Almost everyone here is Profile 1.0 and is doing fine!! Unless you are severly ADD and need video commentary on Picture in Picture, then you don't need full profile 1.1..... I have the Samsung 1400 and love it. Plus it can bitstream all of the new audio formats unlike the PS3. The PS3 is a great machine, but if you want good audio performance too, then get the Samsung 1400!
