Excellent question, as I feel that this will absolutely crush anything that HD-DVD can respond to. Sure, Toshiba may decide to bundle HD-DVD players with their excellent Regza models, but those cant make any dent against the aforementioned manufacturers.

It would be AWESOME if they could bundle players with Vizio TVs.

Vizio TVs?
Actually a crappy $98 HD DVD player & Vizio goes together better

Any insiders know what the BDA is going to do while Toshiba has given up any sense of economics & profit making to get sales for their format?

Have you actually seen a Vizio TV? They are pretty darn good for what you pay.

The BDA needs to get bluray players into the hands of people who own HDTVs.

Whether you accept it or not, Vizio's are HDTVs and are likely to sell VERY well over the holidays due to their cheap price. That is an EXCELLENT crowd to attract.

We shall see.

BDA, you listening? Dont let HD-DVD hang around.

You get what you pay for.

Terrible black levels, TV induced banding, oddball fleshtones, etc.
Forget about anything that resembles calibration with these.
Not to mention the sets with issues or DOA.

To me that's HD DVD thinking: cheap price, nothing else matters.

They are still decent TVs. I have seen football games on them and they are perfectly watchable.

I have two Vizio televisions and am happy with them. They are not in my main room, instead I went with a 1080p DLP Samsung. I would recommend to anyone on a tight budget or for a secondary room.

Yeah I got one on a tight budget, but I got it from Costco before they changed their return policy so I'm trading it in soon...especially since the 1080i input is busted so I have to either play in 720p or 1080p to the native resolution. I'm saving for the 46XBR4...or maybe even the 52XBR4. Is there any loss in quality with the 52 over the 46? It seems that the 46 always gets better reviews and I was just wondering if that is because there are better 52s on the market, but the 46 is the best.

Actually the newer Vizio's are much better than you are letting on. I've got a new Samsung 52" 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV in my living room and I can say that while definately not on that level the Vizio 42" 1080p LCD I just picked up later is a great set. I got it for the bedroom and actually watch more of my programs there. Sure its not a $3000 Samsung but its a very nice HDTV.

I've been trying for sometime to talk the old lady into a 55 inch sony sxrd, but she says it wouldn't fit in my car, and it would be an awful long extension cord.

I was at Sears a couple of weeks ago and was noticing how bad the 42" 1080P Vizio Gallevia looked compared to most of the other TV's they had, especially the Sony and Samsung that were next to it , which were priced at over $3K each. I took the remote, got into the set-up display and noticed the settings were way off of what they should have been. I readjusted it and it looked as good as the Sony and Samsung, as far as I was concerned, with the exception of the 120 Hz motionflow factor. I mentioned this to the salesman, and he fessed up that they misadjusted it to look bad because they didn't make much money off of Vizio's. I immediately bought one ($950 after the $150 off for using my Sears card) for my daughter and son-in-law. That $2K you save compared to a premium brand buys a damned nice blu-ray player and a bunch of discs, or if you already have those it makes a nice downpayment on a new car. People like to bad mouth Vizio, but they make a good product, and are a huge factor in the big boys lowering their prices to more reasonable levels.

I bought 26 inch vizio to be used as my computer monitor. I works well for the price. Not on scale with my 61 Samsung LED DLP but it looks fine for the cmoputer and movies looks fine. Gaming is where i see the most noticeable difference between the Sammy and the Vizio.

Also got a 37 inch vizio for my sister's anniversay gift. This stepped them up from SD and they were amazed by it. I noticed the colors were a bit off. After tweaking it became quite better although not perfect. Even with the colors being a little off the TV does HD quite well and was much better than SD. Definitlty a great TV for budget conscious people who want to get into HD.

Default Vizio is nice, but stick with real electronic makers

I'm sure many are attracted to Vizio, mainly cause of price. They are good televisions, and look really good. I would personally never buy anything other than a Sony or a Samsung though. Sure Vizio can look as good as a Sony, but are the components, technology, labor, etc... the same? Likely not.
Vizio will sell a lot this holiday season, but many consumers do care about brand, and they will stick to the top (name) brands.
As far as including an HD-DVD player with a Vizio, good idea. Toshiba will be taking a major hit by including the player, and they won't see a major increase in sales of movies. Most Vizio consumers will likely use it as a DVD player.

I disagree! Although I have only 1080i on my Vizio, it still looks stunning - regardless, Im still saving up for a better TV, but the Vizio is worth more than what I paid for it.

Some of us are on a budget here.

So are HD DVD players good for the budget conscious who want to get into HD home movies? They're not the best, but they're pretty good compared to DVD.

It is NOT just price. The product has to be good, which is why reviews are now attached to items. I own a Sony and a Panasonic lcd. In a lot of instances, the components are the same and technology is licensed. As for labor, most of it is done by machines. We pay a premium for Brand because of the support behind the product. Do not underestimate the quality of Vizio products. Sony has had their own quality issues and recalls.

In this months PC Magazine the Vizio scored higher than Toshiba in hdtv owner's survey and by the magazines own rating. The latest Toshiba Regza 37" lcd scored 3 out of 5 circles.

Please don't hate on cheap HDTV's.... I remember paying $19.99 for a DVD player one black friday 6 years ago and it still runs like a champ. I did buy a cheap VISCO (I think that's how it's spelled) 32 inch LCD TV from WalMart last year and the HD quality is great and the sports (NFL) that brodcast at 720 is crystal clear, during movie playback some black colors are not as vivd but other than that there are really no complaints. I'll buy a VIZIO TV in a minute if it's going to save me money to purchase more BD's!

If my $19.99 DVD player quits on me tomorrow, so what...it was only 19 bucks and I got my money worth and the same can be said for the cheap HDTV's....
