Default New 50" 1080p ideas?

I have a lovely Panasonic LCD 50" that is about 4+ years old. It plays at 1080i and looks fine, but it doesn't look as good as the tv's at Best Buy with Blue Ray. I am using the HDMI connection. I have the Sony ??300 player, the new one (the precise number escapes me), and when I try and set it for 1080p instead of 1080i the tv goes out, I am told it cannot play at thsi setting. WHat 50" LCD ( I am not fond of Plazma) for under $2000, looks good, thank you in advance for your time.

I don't think you can get a decent 50" 1080p LCD for under $2,000. Maybe 720p or a smaller screen size. Why do you favor LCD over Plasma? Plasma offers better Contrast Ratio, Viewing Angle, Brightness, and is cheaper for larger sized TV's. The only advantage LCD used to have over Plasma was that they could manufacture 1080p sets, but they can do that now for Plasma so I don't see why you would avoid it.

Sony has a new Bravia 50" SXRD 1080p LcOS tv. Best Buy has it on their web site. I think this one is on sale for under $2,000. My brother and I have the regular 50" SXRD and it's a really nice tv. Check it out. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1183767274513. Here is a link to the tv, it's only $1800 with free shipping.

Johnny the Samsung 5084 is selling around 2450.00 to 2850.00 online. If that Display catches your eye I would advise taking a stroll to CC on Black Friday because they will knock some major bucs off there current price.
That Dispaly gives you 1080p 24fps

I'm in the market for a new set as well. I've been thinking about the 46XBR4, but I hadn't really considered getting a plasma. I'll be using a PS3, X-360, and a Motorola 3416 HD DVR. I've heard they made a lot of strides in the burn in department, but what dangers woulld I run into playing games and watching SD with the bars on the side? I'm really interested in the 24p which I hear the Samsung 5084 has....does the Panny have it? I've also heard that Plasmas don't need the 120 refresh rate because they don't have refresh issues, but is the 120 RR a noticeable difference from plasmas? I don't really know what set to go with...I need help!

Yeah I'm waiting until then for sure...I'm just confused as to which will utilize my components the best. Like I said before I hadn't even thought about getting a plasma because I thought they might be too expensive, but I've upped my budget and now I don't know what to do. The 46XBR4 still seems like a great buy, but I'm wondering if there is a plasma that will be better or comparable to that set.

Has anyone had any experience with the Pioneer PRO1150HD? I can't find it on Amazon and I'm not sure what the average price is. This is probably the best Plasma available today...what do you guys think?

I just bought a Sony KDL-52W3000. Is was between this and the 46"XBR. I just couldn't pass on the extra 6". Both have a great picture and are about the same in price. I would highly recommend this TV. CC has it on sale right now for 2699.99, that's an additional $300 off.

Default Thank you for your posts.

I appreciate all of your suggestions, I hope this board continues to be helpfull and does not go the way of other boards I have been on. My problem with Plasma is that, as I understand it, it does not last as long at LCD, also, one can not simply replace bulbs for under $300.00 as I have done. I have had a disaster with my 50" LCD, a couple of years ago it fell off the table I got for it, right onto my panasonic D10 video camera, CRASH!!!, I replaced the screen and made damn sure it was placed properly on the table!!! What if it had been plasma? Later on, the bulb went out and I had it relaced for a few hundred dollars, can one do this with Palsma? Also the low end plasma TV's I have seen look awfull, they are 720 at best. I confess I am not as tech savey TV wise as many on this board, but I am learning. The Sony Bravia seems to have the best picture, that's the one that got me going on Blu ray in the first place. last X-mas they had BD and HD next to each other, I noticed a distinct difference, Blu Ray was better, but cost more, both were too high buck at the time and I kow how these things go, I waited 'till it got under $500 and bought it, I am very happy, but I know my 4+ year old TV is not going to look as nice, I will check into the TV's you mentioned, I am out of the country right now and there is not a Blu Ray in site, strange becouse Bangkok and Kuala Lumpar have everything else, I am off to Cambodia on the 11th, if I see Angalina Jolie I will ask her and Brad if Mr. and Mrs Smith is going to be on Blu Ray soon, or at least Tomb Raider 2, BTW Tomb Rader one, locked up on me in my player, any suggestions?

You made it sound like the Samsung FPT5084 could display 1080p/24, when in reality it displays picture at 60Hz (not a multiple of 24). But now in your last post you're saying the Sammy 1200 BD-P1200, can output 1080p/24 which is certainly correct. I'm not arguing with that.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith will be on Blu-ray December 4. I believe The Tomb Raider movies are Universal, and therefore DUD exclusive.

There is no bulb with plasma. the light is electrically charged gas. It's rated to last about a decade of heavy watching
