Default PS3 Firmware 2.00 is a disappointment...

Well, actually I think it does not deserve the 2.00 at all.

Still missing Bitstream Out for DTS MA and TrueHD and still no upscaling for DS content on Blu Ray Discs :-(

Sad...

It's my understanding that the hardware will not allow for bitsream out of HD audio on the PS3 -- we have to wait and hope for internal decoding so it can pass it as multi-channel PCM.

Well on the Outside this Firmware update was not that impressive, the Theme Icons were probably the only thing I checked out, I though that Music was on this update so you can play your songs in the backround (Let me know if this can be done). I think that this updates made the PS3 Profile 1.1 compliant which would DEFINATELY NOT BE A FIRMWARE DISAPPOINMENT.

I'm just guessing but again I do not know and do not know why they wouldnt list it.

You can play music in the background while just looking around on your system or viewing pictures. You can do that by pressing the PS button when a song is playing.

As soon as you go into a game, movie, or into the PSN store, etc...the music stops though.

With this upgrade, you can watch trailers and videos as they are downloading from the PSN Store (I haven't checked the internet browser though).

Thats awesome, Thanks man, I know others want that feature but I think it would take away from the game experience and def the movie. But you are awesome. Thanks!

dont see why your all dissapointed. it did as they said it would. sony is known for over promising so this time they just delivered. im sure they are more focused on the holiday sale plan of attack than an update. just wait till after the holidays im sure a better update will come.

...well yeah, it would be kind of stupid to allow music while playing a movie

But I WOULD like it to be able to play in the background when I'm browsing the store or something like that.

Driving games are the only place I used the in-game music on the Xbox because of the game experience issue.

It does work with the Web browser..in fact if you go to internet radio site..you will end up with both streams of music playing at the same time..

Lol! That isn't something new in the 2.0 update. I've been doing that for a few months now!

Playlists are new though. But unfortunately there aren't any preset ones like on iTunes like "Top 25 Played" or "90's Music" which is a bit annoying for me.

I was unsure if it worked with the Web Browser or not...but I know it doesn't work when you enter the PSN store (unless that changed in this update).

I think this is an ok update... not great, not even very good. I really wish instead of these auto organizing things it would just let me make freaking folders already!
I like the themes and I think the Information Bar is good. Can that be turned off though?
However I think this information bar may have a lot of potential for us. If Sony can just use it to spell out to all existing PS3 users that every PS3 can play Blu-ray discs already, and include information on a free movie give away (either the 5 free discs or another offer), they could REALLY bring up the awareness of the BD playback on the PS3.
They need to do this to really help spread the information to users who will upgrade their system and then see this information bar telling them they can get a free High Def movie that will play in their PS3 right now.

Yes you can disable the Information Bar

Just press triangle on it and turn off the display (I did this since it was causing a pause in my menu browsing to update the bar).

I'd like to be able to do it in sports games as well. Or at least, create my own in-game playlists. And have a user-playlist station in games like GTA, etc.

Now, for something like Heavenly Sword, that would be useless.

Speaking of. Heavenly Sword experienced a bit of lag during the first Flying Fox fight scene for me. Just a heads-up. Anyway, I'm off to hunt for the non-existent OST. The music is so gorgeous, you don't need to use custom music in HS.

i really wanted the bd j 1.1 or whatever, but i did change my background to blue. i agree that song playing should be optional at all times.

I really do want them to add DTS HD MA support because this is the one thing holding me back from enjoying lossless audio. If they add DTS HD MA then I will go ahead and buy an HDMI amp. However if they don't add it, I will need to replace the PS3 with a standalone player that can do it, and that will have analogue outputs in which case I don't need a new amp. So at the moment I'm stuck with no means of listening to lossless audio because there's no suitable standalone player on the market yet, and no way of knowing if the PS3 will ever support DTS HD MA or not, so no way of knowing if it's worth me buying a new amp or not. I don't want to waste £1k on a new amp that might turn out to be surplus to requirements in a few months.

I hear you on this, this one is killing me, it's WAY more important to me, and probably on lot of other people on here than profile 1.1. I want the best audio experience possible, not PiP.
