Oh ya, I just did a search for the Bourne 4 movie so as not to have too many threads about it. Perhaps a mod can change the name of this thread.

Huh, I thought I read somewhere that Greengrass and Damon weren't doing it, so I thought it was dead. Guess I was wrong. I can't see this being that good without at least Damon.

I think Damon and Greengrass might return to show they can pull it off after the Green Zone wasn't a big commercial success

And that's too bad because I really liked that movie. I think the trailer really effected the box-office of that movie because it just felt like a BOURNE movie and the fact that Damon and Greengrass were both involved did not help. Had they done a different trailer, things would have been much better for that film.

I went to see The Green Zone at the theater thinking that it would be "Bourne on steroids" like it was advertised. How could you go wrong with that? It turned out to be a political statement. I hated it.

Universal Pictures announced today that Tony Gilroy is returning to write the script for The Bourne Legacy, the fourth installment in the Jason Bourne franchise. Gilroy is also writing a "franchise bible." He penned The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum.

Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley are also back to produce alongside Captivate Entertainment's Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith.

While "The Bourne Legacy" is a book written by Eric Lustabader in Robert Ludlum's "Bourne" series, the film will not be based on it.

Matt Damon has gone on record that he wouldn't reprise the role if director Paul Greengrass is not returning. We'll have to wait and see if this announcement changes Damon's mind.

I don't think Damon will do a 4th if his director (Paul Greengrass) doesn't return; he's said it a million times he won't do another one without him so obviously there's a Great working relationship already in place & they both respect the hell out of each other. Damon doesn't Need whatever $$$$ they'll throw at him (if Greengrass isn't available, or they can't come to an agreement), which would prob. be upwards of $20-25 Million plus back-end points. I'm sure he made Plenty with the last two & they prob. gave him a nice "bonus" with the Success ($214 Million Worldwide, $121 Million Domestic - 2002) of the first one anyway, before signing on to the last two installments.

They won't DO IT without Damon; everyone knows/wants HIM as Bourne, end of story. Hopefully IF they do a 4th (which they don't Need to, but as usual, $$$$$$ Talks), they'll get Greengrass back, as he obviously has a great working relationship with Damon & everyone involved in this series, & Is a Great Director.

Some decent names there, but as I noted above, I don't see this franchise moving on "Successfully" without Matt Damon in the Lead role as Jason Bourne, & hopefully with Greengrass returning in the Directors' Chair.

Tony Gilroy, the director of Michael Clayton and Duplicity, has signed on to direct the fourth film in the Jason Bourne franchise, reports Deadline.

The film, currently titled The Bourne Legacy, comes from a script by Gilroy, who also wrote The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, both of which were directed by Paul Greengrass.

Although leading man Matt Damon had previously stated that he had no desire to return without Greengrass at the helm, he has also admitted to being excited for a fourth Bourne outing. Even with the shift in franchise directors, attempts are certainly underway to negotiate Damon's return.

The filmic Bourne series has been loosely adapted from the novels by Robert Ludlum. The original film, The Bourne Identity, was directed by Doug Liman.

LOL! Me too! Well, not that long ago, but still sealed, haven't had a chance to watch it. I vaguely remember the 1st when I saw it in theaters, the 2nd I never saw, and part way thru the 3rd I fell asleep! But I had gotten little sleep the night before and went to an extremely late showing. So I'm giving these another shot!

I could see Greengrass and Damon returning because the Green Zone wasn't as big as they hoped... kind of like Sodenberg and Clooney agreeing an Ocean's Thirteen to rectify Ocean's Twelve disappointment

Ummm, what part of TONY GILROY TO DIRECT 4th BOURNE FILM, did you not get?

DAMON will return or they'll be no 4th film. They may have to Enhance things ($$$$$$$$$) but Damon will be back if they all want to make some 9-Digit Box Office returns.

Still not sure a fourth Bourne should be made, but I don't have a say of course. This is one of my favorite trilogies and it ended perfectly. It has the same writer from Supremacy and Ultimatum, so I have some faith at least.

Come on now, you know the rule: IF ANY Movie Makes a lot of $$$$$$$$$, they'll keep milking it like a 5-year-old Cow on Steroids. That's right. I said it.

I Love Bourne & Damon is great in these films. Just like Connery in the BOND films. Every 2-3 years do a new one.

I like your confidence, but I d not share it. I do really hope Damon returns. He is the staple of the film franchise.

I agree about it ending perfectly; nearly anyway.

Right. For THIS movie, it appears Greengrass won't be the Director. As for your comment above, if they Don't, there won't BE another Bourne movie. Or, I should say, they won't Make one.

Universal has found a new director for The Bourne Legacy, but will they also have to find themselves a new star as well?

Deadline reports that Tony Gilroy, who has scripted all of the films in the Bourne franchise including the pending fourth installment, is set to direct The Bourne Legacy, replacing Paul Greengrass, who helmed the last two entries in the series. (Doug Liman did the first film, The Bourne Identity.)

Gilroy won an Oscar nomination for writing and directing Michael Clayton, and most recently helmed the Julia Roberts-Clive Owen caper Duplicity.

Series star Matt Damon has previously said he would not reprise his role as Jason Bourne if Greengrass wasn't directing, but now Deadline claims Universal is willing to recast the role if need be. In other words, Bourne 4 will happen with or without Damon. No start or release date has been set yet for the film, which Deadline calls "a giant priority for Universal."

What do you think of a new actor playing Jason Bourne?

I don't know how reliable the source is, but if they are relaible it looks like Universal will make Bourne 4 with or without Damon.
