Default BDP-S500 and DTS-MA

According to the users manual, the Sony BDP-S500 outputs 5.1 channels through the analog outs when presented with DTS-MA. Is this the full DTS-MA or just the core? I did not think that any players out today could decode DTS-MA to analog.

It is just core. Until it gets a FW update it will not even do bitstream.

I just got confirmation from my contact withing Sony that the BDPS-500 and the BDPS-2000ES will "Not" be firware upgradeable to dts-HD Master. It is a hardware issue and won't be included until the next generation of Blu-ray players. They said don't expect this until around CEDIA or later. Not good news, but at least it's an honest answer from a trustworthy Sony design engineer. [Jim]

No it is not good news and not smart either. I am not sure how it can be hardware since they are a rebagged Pioneer 95. Guess they cut some corners with them. More bad press to be used against Sony by the haters once this comes to light.

Exclamation DTS-HD MA on the way?

In the German Home Cinema magazine "Homevision" is a test from the Sony BDP-S500 and they were suprised, the new Sony can do DTS-HD MA as bit stream (although Sony does not indicate it in the manual)! Tested with "Chronos" Blu-ray DTS-HD MA and an HDMI 1.3-amplifier! The lights on the amplifier showed "DTS-HD Master"!

New firmware for the test unit?

Yes, I have seen other reports of the euro version of this player bitstreaming DTS-MA.

Makes sence to me since the current Pioneer elite 95 does bitstream DTS-MA and it is the basis of the Sony unit.
(Yes Pioneer makes these for Sony)

Is this for real? I find it hard to believe that at this price point they can not address DTS-MA. As far as I am concerned this whole DTS-MA think has been a really big miss on Sony's part. I will not buy a BD player that does nto support it. I quess I will have to wait until next year.

Well it looks like Sony is muddying the water again. It sounds like MA but without the whole name it could be HR.
