DTS-HD MA on Sony BDP-S500 - Blu-ray Forum

Does anyone know or believe an update for the BDP-S500 will be released to support DTS-HD MA (bitstream)???
It looks like many more titles will be released like The Golden Compass with only DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1, such a shame that this unit does not support this. Thinking of selling already and only 3 months old.

dont think there are any indications one way or the other. if you have your doubts, then go ahead and sell and get one of the newer sony models coming out this year.

the s350 is cheaper and will bitsream all the codecs but doesnt decode dts ma.

Everything I've seen, including this thread, states the BDP-S500 will neither decode nor pass DTS Master Audio. When the HDMI setting is on "Auto", my Denon 2808CI display reads "DTS" - presumably it's only getting the "lossy" core DTS bit stream from the BD player. However, when I change this setting to "PCM" on the BDP-S500, the Denon indicates it's getting a "Multi-In" signal, which I would expect, if it were actually decoding the DTS. Now again, maybe it's just decoding the lossy core DTS, but either it sounds Way Better using this setting or I'm smoking crack.

Another curiousity - with HDMI on PCM, the Denon display indicates it's getting a 7.1 signal in, whether the disc is in DTS MA 5.1 or 7.1 (the only BD with DTS MA 7.1 I know of is Golden Compass). Just some kind of quirk?

Appreciate any input or comments....

yeah my onkyo 805 does the same thing with my S500, it will show Multch 5.1 or 7.1, I can't wait until the newer bd players come out so I can dump this thing!
