Default another Sixaxis controller issue

prompted by the other post.

has anyone had experience with sticky buttons on the sixaxis? one of my controllers came from the factory with an "X" button that tends to get caught on the main casing (or something else) and sticks.

annoying as all hell. just looking for advice before i crack it open.

No problems with either of my controllers. If it doesn't loosen up after a few hours of playing see if you can get it replaced as that can get really annoying during a game I'm sure. I used to accidentally hit the ps button but haven't in quite some time now.

i bump the PS button A LOT. in the middle of a heated battle, or playing a hoops game with my wife. she thinks i do it purposely to mess her up. i swear it is an accident. also, the shoulder buttons are ultra sensitive. sometimes the R2 button will get depressed just from pressing R1 too hard.

My advice is simple.. DO NOT CRACK IT OPEN!
If you do, Sony will not replace the faulty unit for free.
Just go to the store and say it was broken or call Sony. Either way I am sure you could get it replaced for free. It sounds like a bad controller to me, as I've never had any issues with Sony controllers before.

I imported a dual shock 3 controller from Renchi two weeks ago, its developed a sticking X button. Really frustrating as I dont think I can send it to Sony as their warranty wont cover me here in the UK.

You'd have to call the customer service number in Japan... And then cover shipping costs yourself. All in all, prolly end up costing more than just importing a new one.

Thanks for the info, yes I think youre right. Ahh well, I knew the risks when I imported it, so I guess Im just unlucky this time. Ill probably wait till their released in the UK and buy one then. It doesnt help that I paid £45 for it - what a mug!

When it comes out in UK, you -may- be able to get them to service it, I doubt it, but it's a possibility [most likly out of warranty service though].

Just put dab of wd40 on the end of a toothpick - a very small amount. Work it into the area where the x button meets the case while pressing the button as it works around. That should take care of it.

Thanks for the replies.

I bought the system from Costco as a multipack with a 2nd controller and game and to put it simply, trying to return just the controller isn't going to work I don't think.

I could call Sony, but like many of you have said, will probably cost me as much to have it fixed as to replace. Think I'll try fixing it myself. The electronics are fine, it's just something with the plastic.

Possibly, call them and find out. The Sixaxis controller has a 1 year warranty as well, so if it's still covered theymay be able/willing to help you.

Managed to take apart my original sixaxis and the new DS3, swapping the X button itself and plastic pad has cured it. Bit fiddly putting them back together tho!

I wouldn't try opening it yourself. Tried fixing one at my work and it as a nightmare. Everything fell out and the r1, r2, L1, L2 are almost impossible to get back in the right way with the spring and everything. Made me sooo frustrated... And they make it look so easy if you need to replace the battery ever. pfff
