So.. I have a PS3 and an RCN dvr/cable box. I want a decent 5.1 system (I'll settle for component instead of hdmi if need be) for around 400 or less, including speakers.
Anyone have any recommendations? I've seen an onkyo 505 for 250, then I'd need to find speakers. Thanks in advance for everyones help |

Here's a 7.1 Onkyo system w/HDMI for $429, and includes free ground shipping.
http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...ures/502499538 I like Vanns.com, pretty good prices and customer service. Hope you find what you're looking for. |

component will not carry 1080p Best to save up some more money, $400 your not going to get much, it will make noise & that is about it. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ItCqhS8...TS800S&tp=6452 |

FYI, the HTSR800 doesn't decode audio over HDMI... something to keep in mind
Crutchfields research on this stuff is very reliable... not always the best price, but great info... From the Hands on Research section: "the receiver cannot decode the audio signal via the HDMI input so a separate optical digital, coaxial digital, or analog stereo cable must also be used." http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...=detailed_info |

I'm one of those people that can't afford things too.... I think the HTSR800 system is probably incredible, mostly because I drank the Onkyo Kool-aid 6 or 7 years ago... When I was researching I noticed that tid-bit and wanted to make sure the OP knew as well... If that's not a major point, then its the way to go...
I wanted multi-channel PCM so i'm saving up for some speakers and mating it with a Onkyo 605... (couldn't afford the 705 or 805)..... ![]() |

I think the Sony STR-DG710 would suit you well. Currently $199 on Amazon. You will have to buy speakers, but this receiver is good bang for the buck, and for a truly good surround experience you don't want to use the crappy speakers that those HTIB's come with anyway.

I bought an Onkyo HT-S650 6 or so years ago... It's been great. If it weren't for lossless audio, I wouldn't even be upgrading...
I'd bet you'll have a similar experience with the HT-800... The sound is great out of my current system... Onkyo, by far, makes the best HTIB systems... |
