Notice anything wrong with the awards? Planet Earth... Troy... Harry Potter Boxset... Stanley Kubrick Collection... That's right... no mention of them being on Blu-ray Disc while there's a bracketed mention of HD DVD. Hmm-mm, how... suspicious. |

Oh well, yet another reason I stay away from IGN. GameSpot, IGN, CNET, etc. all have their respectives owners, partnerships, allegiances, and motives. You have to take everything they do with a grain of salt. As a PS3 owner, I have no need for IGN's XBox, HD-DVD, and PC junk. PS3Fanboy and Blu-Ray.com provide me with all the great news, deals, info, and reviews I could ever need, and with an appropriate bias.

Atleast HighDefDigest favors blu... They rated Buena Vista for best Hi-def studio and Sony Pictures / Warner Bros second place... |

HDD, in terms of reviews and info, is very fair and balanced. I wouldn't say this necessarily makes them Blu biased, as Disney/Buena Vista has produced nothing but quality releases.....while the same can't be said for other studios across the board. |

Have y'all heard about the gametrailers and gamepot ps3/360 graphics comparison debacle? Apparently, neither site had their ps3's RBG range set to full, which is why all ps3 games were knocked for having "washed out visuals" compared to their 360 counterparts.
It also explains why gamersyde's comparisons always had multiplat games looking more even, with ps3 games looking better just as often as 360 games. Edit: Somebody posted this on another forum, which first brought the issue to my attention. It really explained a lot, and made me wonder just how stupid the guys working at GameSpot were, since I set RGB to full the day I got my HDTV. Hopefully News Corp., their owner, will give them a kick in the ass.
Oh ya, Gamespot is always days late with good PS3/Blu-Ray news, and sometimes they don't even report it. Meanwhile, they always are all over good 360-HD DVD news. Although C-NET is biased against Sony/PS3/Blu-Ray so waht do you expect? Last edited by HK-48; 12-28-2007 at 02:00 PM. |

Well they did give the "DVD of the Year" to Blu-ray.

I've read almost every review on their site since buying into Blu-Ray this summer. That is the first place I go before buying a new disc, to check the ratings. I actually like Peter Bracke's reviews a lot. Although I do see the world through Blu glasses, I find no semblance of a red bias from their Blu-Ray movie reviews. The only time they comment about Blu discs vs HD-DVD is when the HD discs are more feature rich. In all my time there, I have never read anything from Bracke that rubbed me the wrong way that wasn't true. IMO, they tell it like it is and are spot on with their disc ratings.

Well it definitely was the best looking disc I have ever seen. I think they were spot on with that one, but I don't like anything else they do over there.
And as for IGN being owned by News Corp, they are still a subscriber driven site that acts largely independent of their corporate ownership. The corporate guys that control their destiny don't know squat about video games, so the operation of IGN is put solely in the hands of gamers and tech bloggers, who are almost always sure to have a bias towards one system or format. Admittedly IGN does have it's share of Playstation and Sony guys, but anytime X-Box and PS come up in the same discussion the X-Box is heralded for its performance and the PS3 ALWAYS seems to perform abysmally or second-rate in their breakdowns. Also, their "comparison" videos are total crap and are merely put up for 360-fanboy fodder and subscriber bait. Anybody that has played Ninja Gaiden Sigma in 1080p and at an astoundingly solid 60 frames knows very well which next-gen system is more powerful. I don't want to get into a fanboy-esque discussion about next-gen system, but the opinion of IGN's editors and bloggers are very clear if you spend enough time over there. And to sum it up: no, they aren't on our side. |

I don't think IGN does enough with blu-ray or HD-DVD to be biased either way.
However I do agree that they are biased with the 360 and PS3. It's strange that whenever there is an article about a game coming out on multiple platforms on the main page, it always links directly to the 360 version. |

I personally look to IGN for movie news, game news & reviews of PS3 titles & movies but i'll always take a look for any problems & issues in the game rather than what they think of it because i know a biased site will lower it because of that & will look to other sites to give a more fair comparison
IGN is big & gets news on stuff sometimes quicker than others so that's what i look for on IGN |
