I'm all over this film! 50k is a small number though. Even Blade Runner had over 100k. This film is such a classic and I can't wait to watch it in 1080.

Default 50,000 units would be senseless

Maybe 50,000 special box sets with little toy chariots of something but to remaster a film of this length then only sell 50,000 copies wouldn't make much business sense would it?

Will a disc-only option be available for Citizen Kane? I enjoy the movie but am not one for gimmicky overpriced collectors sets.

That is guaranteed... if there is one thing Warner does right, it is treating classics with the upmost care

I was hoping that Ben hut would come ouot around the same time The Ten Commandments did on Blu Ray. Unfortunately that is not to be. Any idea what month this is being released?

In reading the March 11, 2011 interview with the Sony Restoration boss (re. Taxi Driver), there are additional challenges to overcome (he was not specific) when movies originally filmed at 65-mm. are transferred/scanned, and it is better that they be scanned at 8k resolution as opposed to 4k. He cited Lawrence of Arabia as a case in point. Based on this assertion, I can appreciate where he is coming from, particularly when it comes to such high-resolution movies like Ben-Hur (which was filmed in MGM Camera 65). On that basis, I'm willing to be patient and wait to let the restoration technicians do their job and not turn out an inferior product that everyone will complain about. Listen to the tekkies, be patient, and let them do their job! I think we will be glad in the long run that we did.

It's worth the wait to get something that is the benchmark for the medium. Lawrence of Arabia and Ben-Hur cannot fail to disappoint.

So for Ben Hur, are we still talking this year or perhaps this gets pushed back again to some time in 2012?

Ben Hur date shouldnt have changed as that's Warner not Sony.... I'd say Sep-Nov 2011 is likely.

Bill Hunt has just posted the official details of the Ben-Hur UCE (still called "50th Anniversary" even though that was two years ago). It's supposed to have all the DVD bonus features, including the 1925 version; however, with only 2 BDs, I suspect they're all in SD. Still no date beyond "this fall".

It will have a new HD documentary about Charlton Heston's experience (including home-movie footage), as well as copies of Heston's personal diary and the original press book, plus an exclusive photo book. (Sorry, no miniature chariot. ) It's a 6K restoration from the 65mm OCN, and according to Bill, "the difference is stunning".

I would guess the date would be Nov. 16th - that was the date it was originally released.

According to dvdaf.com Ben-Hur has a release date of 9/27. Hope that's correct, as that would make: Scarface, Star Wars, Dumbo, Ben-Hur, and The Lion King all in consecutive weeks!

Just wanted to bump this thread to remind people that you can get both of these titles for $10.99 at Best Buy. Ordering online is probably futile but your local B & M should have them.

The $69.99 and $34.99 versions of Ben Hur are $10.99.

And the $34.99 version of Citizen Kane is $10.99.

Picked up the Ben Hur box and Citizen Kane digibook from Best Buy this weekend.

I strongly dislike those big boxes of junk but $10.99 for Ben Hur was cheaper than the movie-only editions, and has that extras disc. Anyone with a custom cover for this one, that uses the theatrical poster for the front and a Warner-style back listing specs? Not sure what plans I have for all the goodies.

For Citizen Kane, I think those big box haters ( ) will be best suited with the digibook (unless you're a digibook hater too). The only disc content missing is RKO 281, and that's a DVD which is available separately if you happen to want it, anyways.

The $34.99 and $59.99 versions were ringing up at regular price at the store I went to. Only the one with the figurine rung up at $10.99. A worker offered to price match them, however. YMMV.

There is a great custom cover. Let me try to find it.

The Citizen Kane digibook was $10.99 today at BB and I paid $30 a few months ago for it. Damn you BB.

I'd head into BB tomorrow to look for the digibook, but I've only ever seen the UCE version of CK at my local store. Maybe it'd be worth it to go take another look tomorrow, though. Will there ever be a non-digibook release?
