800x600 vs 1280x720 image quality difference - Blu-ray Forum

I have a Dell 1200MP. Not great by all means, but works well with my HD Fury. Its native rez is 800 x 600. In Hi Def at 720p projected at 73 inches (6ft) onto my wardrobe door (space is small) I have a diagonal image of 50 inches. I have the chance to pickup a Mitsubishi HC1500 1280x720 native DLP, for a decent price. Before I commit to the purchase will I see much of a difference in picture quality at this size and distance? BTW from a really good HD source (Pirates/Resident evil/5th element) the picture quality is really good from teh Dell 1200P. There is screen door effect, but its not that bad, and the rainbow effect I have gooten used to and hardly notice, I am wondering if there will be any benefit?

You should be able to tell a difference in picture quality, and should be pretty noticable. DLP's are amazing TV's; however, if your willing to spend a bit more I would go with an LCD or Plasma cause of the brighter picture, and that way you don't hae to worry about replacing the DLP lamp every few years.

considering this is a widescreen unit, there is a change in format. what you're using for the moment is a 800x600 native resolution pj, while the mitsu is a widescreen format.

the mitsu does have hdmi inputs available, making it 'semi' future proof. (considering that hdmi is relatively new as of the moment, and most items that are out there are still using the older version, and not 1.3)

the dell has a brighter ansi compared to the mitsu, but then again, its not always about brightness imo.

the mitsu tho does have a slighter advantage considering its noise rate, as well as its contrast level.

my suggestion is if you can get rid of the dell FIRST, then buy the other pj, you should be able to offset your expenses towards your new projector.

its a win win situation for you. aside from the change in throw a bit, but then again, that can be resolved with minimal keystone effects.

as a side note, if you do plan to shell out some money, might as well consider going flat screen.

not as big as your current pj, but definitely has its own perks.

Well I did get it and all I can say is wow. The 16:9 factor alone. Then there is the detail in dark areas, on the older PJ very black especially on very dark scenes, on this one all the detail is there. Didn't realize how much I was not seeing.
