I don't expect either of Paramount or Universal will switch to the BD camp soon. But they would probably declare Format Neutral in coming months and at the same time advise the rest of studios to do the same. This will help them to save face as well ass.

as long as when they start releasing on blu they are optimized to take full advantage of blu specs. We wont take anything less then perfect since blu is the winning format now.

Honestly, Id be happy if they went neutral first. Eventually Blu-ray will win out because its a better format and in the meantime we would be able to watch films from Paramount and Universal.

Default Paramount has reserved the right to switch back to Blu-ray?

Link

This part is of interest:

Universal has been the format’s biggest champion but it was tight lipped on Sunday about its next move. It was unclear whether the studios backing HD-DVD would change sides, although it is understood that Paramount has reserved the right to switch its backing to Blu-ray.

the Paramount payoff probably included some sort of a signing bonus along with incentives by certain milestones...

I wouldn't put too much stock in this article...this is the only time anyone has mentioned an out clause for Paramount. I find it strange that FT would know something no one else does...consumer electronics is not their game.

it actually sounds like FUD spun in Blu's favor...

not that we need it at this point....but I still don't like lies on either side...

I find it hard to believe that there ISNT an escape clause...

I would think that if they were to go back to neutrality, they would have to "reimburse" toshiba and microsoft for some of the bribe money provided.

Our insiders have confirmed that there are out clauses in the P/DW contract -- although they also said that Warner alone wouldn't be enough.

And this is Financial Times, not some random blog. There's too much at stake in the industry for FT to be spreading FUD.

Seriously, this sounds very plausible.

actually...contrary to my previous post...I swore Penton hinted at something like this...

at least that's the way I interpreted the riddle

I just find it funny that the clause has never been mentioned until now..

No it isn't, our insider Max has already told us there are out clauses. We already knew Paramount has reserved the right to switch back, however what we don't know is what conditions will permit them to exercise an out clause. What we do know (again, because Max told us) is that Warner switching to Blu-ray exclusive does NOT in itself trigger any of the out clauses.

Yeah, Max said as much, many a blue moon ago.

I wonder why our insiders aren't here celebrating with us this weekend. They can't ALL be at the Playboy Mansion, can they?
