yeah it's based on true facts or something to that effect but i don't know if that is true or not... the movie is worth watching atleast once though and more if you liked it... and i sure wouldn't mind upgrading my dvd

That would be false. At best there might be borrowed personal or related facts the author used. This one is not based on true events. This doesn't keep others from saying otherwise.

I remember really enjoying this film...
I'll probably rent it again to see how I feel about adding it to my collection. Some movies are great, but not worth owning. I've started being a bit more picky with what I purchase.

Eh, The Others seems like it would fit pretty well into the wing of horror that contains big hitters like Rosemary's Baby, Psycho, The Haunting, The Exorcist, The Innocents etc, etc, etc.

There's nothing wrong with jump cuts and blaring sound effects but slower burning 'things that go bump in the night' stories have their place too.

Well i guess you should just wait. I only have one import: Amelie. months later they announced a US release. ha. I ended up paying $30, because the shipping cost me about $10.

IMHO it would take an extremely limited definition of the horror genre, one that basically ignores its history and much of its output, to exclude 'The Others' from it.

'The Others' is an old school ghost story where the focus is on mystery and the slow building of an eerie atmosphere instead of feelings of pure dread.

I agree. It has enough atmosphere to start a new planet. Terrific set design, acting, everything. No b-grade gore or torture either. Imagine that?

Exactly how I feel. Me and my wife love that spooky atmospheric ghost story. Maybe we'll have something like a haunted planet in future.

Good review. With such a good price it's a no-brainer.

You're referring to movies that were made over 50, and 40 years ago! The horror genre classifications were different in that era, then what they are today. The Exorcist was initially categorized as horror since its first theatrical release in 1973, because the movie contained numerous depictions of horrific acts, monstrous images of demonic possessions. The Others didn't have any of those grotesque murder psychopaths, that were portrayed in The Exorcist, Rosemary's
Baby, and Psycho. I've never heard, nor seen The Innocents.

I know the Canadian release is 1080i for sure, while the U.S, and Germany releases are in 1080p. The audio for all three, are in DTS-HD 5.1 MA.
