Default Sony Laptop will not play Blu-ray

I returned my laptop because it would not play the blu ray movies without having it pluged into the wall.the batt were fully charged and there was no upgrade.Has Sony fixed that yet?

If this is genuine, then the problem would most probably be that the player software needs an update. Players such as PowerDVD and WinDVD sometimes need updated. This happened after a security layer was cracked on both HD-DVD and Blu-ray a while ago. I had a similar problem with one disc (Trading Places) which would not play until an update was performed.

If you are using PowerDVD Ultra and updating via the programme... BEWARE... it tells lies. It says that it has updated and it hasn't. You have to update manually.

For PowerDVD Ultra have a look at for a recent patch:-

PS. The cyberlink site is painfully slow... like treacle in fact!!!

That's a really odd problem, but to be honest.

You're better off asking Sony CustServ directly. Especially if it was a recent purchase [although with it returned, seems like that's not so much an option].

It was the power issue I was told by Sony tech support. On portable batt power they will not play the bluray it slows down but would play a reg dvd.works fine if pluged in.

Sometimes tech support people don't know all the answers. If you suspect it is a power problem, then try turning off all power saving settings in control panel, you could then save this profile as something imaginative such as "BD". That way the video and the drive will not be subject to power saving. Neither will the processor... this is what will eat most of your power. Some notebooks (with mobile processors) switch down the clockrate when operating on the battery, though this could possibly be overcome by the control panel settings.

BD on batteries...
Here:

This is my VGN-AR190G outside playing The Benchwarmers Blu-ray(yeah yeah) in WinDVD BD For VAIO on battery.
Disregard dl.tv in Opera on top.

EDIT: Just now, The Wild BD playing on PowerDVD Ultra and you can see the power cord draped over the screen - it's running on battery!

This VAIO plays Blu-ray fine - although it eats the hell out of the battery.
I can play a whole movie but that's about it.

Hope this clears up a few things.
