Default 3 New Sony Sxrd's Coming In March 2007

There is 3 new models of Sony SXRD coming in March 2007. All I have is the model numbers. I don’t have any product details. These are reliable model numbers from my source. As soon as I find out more info on these sets I will paste a link. These SXRD 2020 models might just be minor modifications to the SXRD 2000 models. I did a search on the web using these model numbers to verify the info I received and I see a Inernet company is taking pre-orders but they don't have any details about the features.

KDS50A2020 (50 inch SXRD)
KDS55A2020 (55 inch SXRD)
KDS60A2020 (60 inch SXRD)

Good stuff.

I'm looking forward to seeing the breakdown on differences between these new models and their predecessors.

Default 3 New Models Of Sony Sxrd Update

I just compared the manual between the 2006 SXRD rear projectors and the new 2007 SXRD rear projectors. Both the 2006 and 2007 models according to the instruction manuals are 100% exactly the same accept for different model numbers. I compared all 67 pages and the manuals are identical accept for the model numbers. Same console weight and size, same number of inputs. I am disappointed. Why did Sony even come out with a 2007 model? I wonder if the firmware version is exactly the same also. Sony must have made some small change to the firmware inside the set or something or why would you have a set that is exactly the same with different model numbers? Hopefully when the new 2007 SXRD XBR displays come out there will be improvements like 1080P/24 support and two way QAM tuner with S cablecard support for video on demand. I am guessing we should see something in September.
Since as far as I can tell both the 2006 and 2007 Sony SXRD are exactly the same I recommend people to purchase the 2006 models that can be found on clearance. Why pay a few hundred dollars more for a 2007 model if the only difference is the model number?

Here is a link to both manuals in case someone wants to see what I am talking about

2006 models

Default Update

Update. The only difference between the 2007 SXRD models and the 2006 SXRD models is the cosmetic difference. The new 2007 models are black with a little “ Full 1080P logo” on the front. Right now one can get the old 2006 Silver SXRD’s for $300 cheaper. So if you want the set in black you will pay $300 more in price.

Here is a picture of the 2007 model.

http://www.abtelectronics.com/photos/27577.html#tabs

P.S.

THE MANUAL DOES NOT MENTION THE COLOR BEING BLACK OR SILVER. THIS IS WHY I DID NOT SEE THIS BEFORE I FOUND THE COLOR PICTURE.

Are you sure Abt just didn't copy over the specsheet from the 2006 series as a placeholder until the real details become available in a few weeks (at the Sony Dealer Show)?

Both the prior links I posted are both two different Sony copyrighted manuals. The 2006 manual comes from Sony’s official site. The new model SXRD manual is an official Sony manual from ABT online. For example look at page 61 of both manuals. The only difference is the model number. Maybe Sony made a mistake when publishing the manuals. I don’t think ABT an online dealer would change a copywrited manual (that would be to much work). What if Sony supplied them with a first draft manual that needs revised?
From the information we have right now it appears the only difference between the 2007 SXRD and 2006 SXRD is the fact the new Sony’s are black with a “Full 1080P” logo stuck on the front. Unless there is an error in the manual no other specifications were changed for this years models. There could be an unseen change with different firmware or circuitry used, but anything major would have shown up in the specs. Right now someone can save a few hundred dollars if they purchase the 2006 silver model over the 2007 black model. I guess there is not enough demand to have both the silver and black colors in production. Many customers like the color of black TV cabinets.
Hopefully Sony will update their website soon with these 3 new model numbers. Now we know why Best Buy and other stores have the 2006 models marked down. Make way for the 2007 models that are black in color.

Perhaps Sony might come out with the features you’re talking about in September 2007. 1080P rear projectors are becoming popular and Sony could start releasing new SXRD models every 6 months. Are you sure its going to be the 2020’s series with the features your talking about? If the 2020’s series are going to have those features then either Sony totally messed up on the creation of the 2020’s manual or someone forged a phony Sony manual as a joke.

FYI - the "1080P Full HD" logo is a peel-off label.

That was on my 2006 SXRD also. I removed it.

Thanks for clarifying. I think what you've posted above is probably correct. The Sony Product Mgr involved did a quick edit (or copy and paste if that's what you want to call it) of the 2000 series manual. It will probably be updated as more information becomes available.

Did your Sony trainer mention anything about the XBR series that will come out later this year...or can you find out?

I am anxiously awaiting to see what's changed on this year's models, even if they are not released until late Summer.

I'm not that excited as I don't think the color points on the SXRD's are terribly great. Sony IMO is overrated. But cool info none the less.

The new Sony March 2007 models only difference appears so far to be the black color of the case. Specs and size according to the manual is exactly the same as the 2006 models.
Sony has these 3 new models listed on their website now with an expected ship date of March 15th. Sony has priced these new SXRD 2007 models a $100 to $200 cheaper compared to the 2006 models. 50 inch and 60 inch is $100 cheaper then last year’s model. The 55 inch is $200 cheaper then last year’s model. All these models on the Sony website appear to be Sony’s manufactories list price.
Currently you can get the 2006 models cheaper since Best Buy and others have special clearance prices for the 2006 SXRD sets. Once the March 2007 models are released they should be selling for about $100 or $200 cheaper then the old fully priced 2006 models were before they went on clearance.
Sony might have integrated some electronic circuits to be able to lower the cost $100 or $200 on the new sets. I hope the black levels on the 2007 models are exactly the same or better then the 2006 models. Even though the specs are exactly the same we really need a review of this new SXRD set to make sure the internal electronics are the same and hopefully the picture quality is the same or better.
There was some major differences between the 2005 and 2006 SXRD sets. The 2006 SXRD sets had a 1080P input and cost several hundred dollars less then the 2005. The 2005 SXRD lacked 1080P input but the black level’s were better on the 2005 model compared to the 2006 model. Also the 2006 model left off the cable card feature. I would rather own the 2006 SXRD over the 2005 SXRD since the 1080P input is nice to have for max picture quality for BLU-RAY discs. The only thing is the 2005 SXRD sets when watching non BLU-RAY material they had a slightly better picture quality compared to the 2006 models since the black levels were a little better.
My point to all this is we might be reaching a point were cheaper prices on newer models one day might not mean better quality. In the future when low end 1080P displays start to get cheap under $1000 then the quality might start to suffer. Sony, Pioneer, JVC, and other manufactories make some really excellent quality products. I just hope that in the future there will be at least 2 tiers of 1080P displays. TIER 1 should be the more expensive high quality displays that are several thousands of dollars. TIER 2 should be the low cost 1080P displays under $2,000. Some day TIER 2 1080P displays will be sold at Walmart for under $1,000. Some of these cheap off brand 1080P displays might have issues with bad response times and black levels. At a certain point over the next year or two we might find a lot of cheap displays that are to cheap in quality also.
