Cars, 3:10 to Yuma, Ratatouille, Apocalypto, Pirates, Disney? I had a hard time finding one without good PQ?

Sony TVs have Picture Mode set to vivid by default and that totally screws up the image. If you set the Picture Mode to Normal and get rid of noise reduction, that should help.

Vivid is terrible, Normal is good, Calibration is best...

-no, my tv is 60hz not 120 hz ... (but when they had pirates on split screen showing 60zh next to 120hz, yeah there was a little difference but not that much)

I guess I'll have to buy pirates 3 to compare ... does anyone know what are the best movies that show the best pq of the blu-ray technology?
I have found this site to be useful hope you do too... http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/reviews_video.html

is the tv the same tv as what was in the stores. because all 1080p tvs are not made equal, and some give considerably better picture quality than others.
stock do you have a link to the calibration section?

kdl46v2500 isn't top end model

I would recommend buying or renting The Guardian with Kevin Costner. It has the best picture quailiy i have seen, then all of the pirates movies second.
i read a thread in here on sony settings. in a nutshell go to picture set it to custom then turn off all enhanstments. your bluray should look great without all these extras running. i would recommend custom colors set to 1080p. also set colors to 1080p on player. lastly get or rent Rattouii or any disney or Lucas film and use the optimizers on each disk.
the Lucas one is the easiest to run.

I am also new to this sight but I understand what you are saying. When you go to Best Buy they have a sony demo running. This system includes a Sony BDP -S300 connected to a Sony XBR4 LCD TV. The picture looks like it is in 3D. It looks so real like you can reach in and grab a character. In this demo they show clips of Pirates, Cars and Chicken Little. The XBR4 also has 120Hz. refresh Rate

Now here are my questions. I have a 50 Inch Pioneer
5010FD and a sony PS3 running my BD. I have them connected with a HDMI cable. The run is only 3 feet.
But my pictures never look as clear as the Sony setup and does not have that 3D effect. Movies watched are Happy Feet, Pearl Harbor and Underdog. When I press Input on the Pioneer I get 1080P resolution and 32 Bit.

The salesman at Best Buy said I have a top of the line TV but the PS3 is holding me back. Said I need a dedicated BD player and my pictures will be more 3D. Will a dedicated BD player give me a better Picture ? What I have read so far tells me no. Are there specific setting on the PS3 that will give me a better picture. Right now most things are in Automaic Mode. If anyone has a Pioneer 5010
what are the optimum settings for wathching BD ? I have also read that my TV can be switched to 120HZ but I cannot find that setting on the menu any suggestions

Thanks

Calibrate your HDTV.

ISF is probably in your best interest...nice TV by the way.

also, in the PS3 set RGB to Full and 1080p/24Hz to "On".

That is simply not true. The PS3 is not holding you back at all, in fact it is more capable than most BD players right now.
The TV may be top of the line, but there are other factors that go into this.
The PS3 has an automated action that detects the optimal settings based on your set up.
I suggest that the main issue here is with calibration. Sure you can calibrate it yourself, but if you pay for a professional to calibrate your TV, they can not only do a much much better job, they can also help you set up things like 120Hz and the like. They can adjust the image until you like it.
It is important to note one method in-store displays use to achieve their near 3-D quality is to bump the contrast way up. This will make it look more 3D, but will also loose a lot of details in the shadows and highlights. Plus things will look dark if it is not done right.
The best thing to do is check with a professional calibrator and see what they recommend you do to get the best image and sound out of your system. Make sure you use HDMI and the like.
Make sure they know all about your set-up so they can adjust things like deep colors or super white or whatnot.
Also, the higher the contrast ratio, the more 3D thing will look.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the RGB setting on the PS3 apply only to games and the XMB and YCbCr for BD's?

we bought a 46 samsung lcd right before xmas for 1499. Everybody had this TV for sale at that price. We bought it from Frys and when we set it up, it did not look like we wanted it too. We tried to calbrate and got to a point that looked good but I wanted more. So we packed everything back into our Honda Civic( had too take it out of the box but it totally fit in the back seat no problem. The guys helping were kinda asses about it at first saying there was no way in hell it was going to fit ,It was nice to prove them wrong.) We got to frys the day after xmas and the return line was long. We went and saw the same TV for the most part but this one was 120htz. This TV was 3200 the day before Xmas and 1700 the day after. I asked the guy why and he said it was a 1 day unadvertised sale. We picked it up and it looks GREAT. i kinda dig the soap opera look but thats just me. Having a superbowl party and this TV will impress, Go GMEN. No not a ginats fan, Just a pats hater.

I have to agree with the others about calibrating.
I have a Samsung 61" DLP. I was getting quite annoyed by the grain in the background of movies. This was because I hadn't changed any of the settings.
Recently, I played with the settings, and the picture is 100x better.
Now I can enjoy my movies!

I soldered a coaxial connector to the back of my t.v., then I purchased a converter from Coaxial to RCA, (one of the good ones from Radio Shack) and connected my PS3 with the provided cables.... it's the finest B&W display around. I am still trying to find the optimal placement/adjustment for the rabbit ears.... but it's a work in progress.

What settings did you change to see results?

After searching, I found the following settings which others were using for the Samsung DLP TV's.

Movie mode
Contrast: 27
Brightness: 51
Sharpness: 0
Color: 65
Tint: G-55 R-45
Color Tone: Normal
Everything else off.

Actually, just changing it to Movie mode made a huge difference. It was initially on Dynamic, which gave a nice bright picture, but lots of grain. I set the color tone to Normal.

That is really low contrast for DLP, imo. What model is your TV?

It is a HL-T6176s.
I haven't finished playing with the settings. These are just the ones I found on the internet. I need to tweak them for my room. I may look into a Calibration DVD.
