Default Got a PS3 settings question!

I was going through my BD/DVD setting and I can't figure out what the (BD 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI)) option does . I read the description but i'm still confused. It looks the same on or off. Can someone please explain what this does?

if youre tv is 72Hz or 120Hz capable, then that option applies to you. If not, then it wont benefit, but could affect playback negatively in some cases.
