Let me rephrase my previous statement, you wont notice anywhere near a $1300 improvement. Tough decision for me will be 5080 vs 2008 30000:1 CR Panasonic 1080p. |

I went from the Samsung 5084 (1080p) to the PRO-1150HD (768p) and the Pioneer really brings out much more detail. I couldn't be more pleased. Yes I see SDE when I get closer to the display but I sit almost 10' away and I have never seen blacks this deep before and it really brings the contrast out. I too was going through the 1080p vs 720p thing in my head but once you see a calibrated Kuro you too will understand that not all 1080p are worth it yet.

yes I agree its a waste of 1300.00 FOR my use.
the closest I get to watch is 8feet and mostly 10feet on couch laid out like a fat bastard. i have 20/10 distance vision, work with colors and details for 30 years and on top of that i am a picky SOB.... the 5080 in my eyes, my livingroom with my time warner HD and my panny bd30 is as good as it gets. yeah a pioneer 1080p would rock but it would have to be a 60" or bigger... i have returned a xbr4 and a panny 700u in the last month..... xbr4 in my situation just didnt have blacks and the panny which is 1080p didnt have the pq of the 5080. yes this is subjective but for my eyes it is a no brainer. i also figure in 2 years this is going to make one hell of a master bedroom tv. the 5010 is awesome but i do not sit 6 feet away so reality is it is not worth it for me. for the 2049.99 I think anyone looking at lcd's that cost 2000-3200 should really look at the 5080 at the same time. but...what do i know?? thanks for the posts/ input fellas...appreciated very much as this can be confusing making these decisions. just to vent here and get input is a good thing! -me ![]() |

But, six feet is when you would FULLY resolve 1080p on a 50". And 10 feet is when you fully resolve 720p. So, any distance between 6-10 gains some benefit from 1080p and you possibly would start seeing artifacts of having less (e.g. SDE). Also, I think people need to think that really you want to ALMOST resolve your resolution, not actually resolve it. You don't want to see the pixels. I'm sitting 7-7.5 feet, so I decided there was enough benefit to go with the 5010. I won't fully resolve, but I'm definitely in the zone of benefit. And I can always get a bit closer. ![]() Carlton Bale's Chart |
