LG SMB-007 Super Multi Player? - Blu-ray Forum

Curious about this player that does both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. Anyone have any information or thoughts about this player?

A universal player is only needed right now if your interested in playing Universal Studios movies which currently is exclusive to HD-DVD camp. The player you mentioned is the Canada version.

The US version is known as LG BH100 Super Multi Blue Player. What I do not like about this LG player is it is not a fully functioning HD-DVD player. It does not play HD interactive features with menus. Also early reports are that you can not fast forward or rewind HD-DVD titles. Only chapter skips to navigate around the HD-DVD movies. I would rather purchase a Sony Playstation 3 for $499 and a Toshiba HD-DVD player for around $400. This will be better quality having separate players. Hopefully if LG makes a second generation Super Multi Blue Player I am hoping it will be fully compatible with HD-DVD discs. In reality universal players would not be needed if Universal Studios were to decide to release in BLU-RAY. The format war would be over soon if that every occurred.

No need to rush out and pay that inflated price just for a few Universal movies that will most likely be available later this year in Blu anyways.
