OK, I am looking to buy a tv at best buy, but some people have told me not to judge tv's by going into the stores due to the salesmen possibly tweaking the way certain tv's look in order to sell certain ones. Does anyone have any info on this?

Find the HDTV's you are interested in go on the net find the calibrated settings for them go back to BB put the settings in your self (tweak to your eyes of course) then have a sales person hook up a Blu-ray player HDMI'ed of course have some of your BD's ready & look for your self

Definitely do your research before going to buy. I look online for the best-rated products (usually the three best that fit my budget, etc.) then go to the store of my choice and pick the one that best fits my esthetics (assuming all of the technical specs are equal among the product in question).

Sharp Damnit! Sharp are the Best TVs you can get IMO, I sell more of these than any other because people research and come in and Love them. I also turn a lot of sony buyers onto Sharp, the 82Us are much cheaper than the XBRs

When I went shopping for my mom, the best rated HDTVs in her price range were Samsung and Sharp. I got her to get the Sharp 46" 120hz model. Plus at the time (just a couple weeks ago) it came with a free BD player.

I agree as well.
I am about to start a fight with them. Bought mine in Sept. under a 3 year no interest plan, and noticed on my October statement someone changed it to an 18 mos. no interest plan. Its taken me literally months of fighting to get to the point where the Best Buy Credit Card folks are telling me that someone at the store I bought it from requested the change - a full month after I bought the tv, but they can't tell me why. Can't wait for this... And before everyone comments - no other purchases were made, no delinquent payments, etc. ![]() |

My experience at bb had been great buying dvd's, blu's, cd's, etc. Until my folks bought me my receiver for Christmas. I ended up taking it back to get a better model (greedy, I wanted an extra HDMI, just in case). I drove to Frisco which is about 45 min north of my house in Dallas because they were the only bb that had it in stock. When I got it home that night I pulled it out of the box, to my suprise the whole front of the receiver was bashed in. The packing material was damaged on the corner it was bashed in on. The outside of the box looked great, no damage. So 10am the next morning I take it to the bb in Arlington which is 10min away because I didn't want to drive all the way to Frisco again. I wanted to take it right in because I didn't want them to think that I had damaged it. I was told since it was damaged I needed to drive it to the original store. But before leaving, while talking with the manager, the manager made a remark like, "If you had bought that here I wouldn't let you return it." I said huh? He went on to explain the reason why. "So someone comes in and buys an LCD or Plasma TV and we offer to instal it in their living room (for like 500 bucks), and the customer says no I can do it myself, then two days later they bring it in and the screen is cracked and it will not work." (Like it is that hard to mount an LCD on the wall, my wife and I hung ours in under 30min) He said this is the reason that he would refuse to return mine if I had bought it there, or anything else that had been damaged inside the box.
I know there are people out there that have taken advantage of this and said it was damaged before they bought it, but I wasn't. The manager at the frisco store was nice about it. He made me look him in the eyes and "promise" I hadn't dropped the box. He returned it and I got the receiver I had wanted. This is the reason I refuse to go to BB again. Even though the manager at Frisco was cool about it, the other one was a moran, and frankly you can't believe half of the things their salespeople tell you especially about their home theatre equip. Straight CC for me from now on, I know that is where I am going to buy my next LCD. ![]() So before you walk out, tell the salesman that you want to unpack your tv from the box plug it into the wall and you want them to play a bluray on it ![]() |

Is this really the right section of the forum to be asking for help on buying a TV?

I think buying from them is not so bad. They have good prices (at least in Canada they're good compared to some other retailers. And to my experience you can return stuff within 30 days, no question asked. Just don't believe anything their salesmen tell you (or at least do your research before you go there and most of the time, you'll know more than they do, but I guess there are some exceptions!). Other stores around here will probably offer you a good price if you have the patience to convince them but once it's out of the store, good luck getting service out of them! I bought my tv at Dumoulin some time ago and the remote was missing! It took me a couple of months and help from other people to have them order a new one for me, basically they were telling it was impossible. I also remember another store that would show a crappy analog feed on one tv next to a dvd or hd feed on another to convince me that the other model was crap! |

Best buy has always been fine with me. I think i have purchased my last 2 lcds and last rear projection at the same store and no problems at all with anything. I guess with any kind of GIANT NAMED COMPANY it depends on the staff and management of those particular locations. Some are probably excellent and some aren't. Thats the nature of the business. Plus their such a big store if they do give you a problem all you have to do is either contact the bbb or call their home offices and IM SURE they'll be happy to resolve the problem quickly.
