Default Next meeting of the DVD Forum steering committee on Feb. 27

http://www.dvdforum.org/images/40thC...ing_071115.pdf

Quote:
The next Steering Committee meeting will be held on February 27, 2008, hosted by Pioneer and Mitsubishi, at the InterContinental Tokyo Bay Hotel, Tokyo, Japan.
The General Meeting will be held on February 28, 2008, and the Workshop on February 29, 2008, at the same location.
I think there'll be a lot of snickering and sulking during the meeting.

The dvd forum is defunct as of now. This should be their last meeting.

This could turn out to be really interesting. Does the DVD Forum remove Toshiba as lead because they failed? Do they adopt Blu-ray? Do they simply fade into the sunset?

Why would they adopt Blu-ray if Blu-ray is not a DVD technology? Wouldn't they only focus on a technology based on the DVD format?

Fade into the sunset, well, when DVD goes the way of the Dodo...

Not really... DVD is going to be around for years to come. But as Blu-ray becomes more popular and eventually overtakes DVD as the new standard you will see the power shift to the Blu-ray Disc Association... Should be interesting to follow.

Do you think that is a likely scenario? Just because we now have gourmet food doesn't mean Big Macs are going to disappear.

Not for a very long time, CD is still going strong after nearly 30 years. There is nothing written in history to say that DVD will go down without a fight, the numerous Chinese manufacturers who won't be allowed to make BD players will make sure of that.

Big Mac, hmm, never had one of those, give me a KFC bucket any day!

Your definately right about it being a long time before DVD goes away, but it will go away.

CD is going strong because there has not been a viable, worth while, replacement (yes, I know there have been supior formats that have tried to take over). Cassette tapes went away becasue of CD's. DVD now has a viable, worth while replacement and will be replaced by Blu-ray.

DVD has another 10 years to run easy. People are not going to abandon DVD like they did VHS. When their DVD player breaks they'll buy a Blu, and I think that by 2010 or 2012, that's all they'll be offering.

Pretty sure Max is in the UK. I don't think Popeye's has a presence outside the USA. KFC, however, does.

That was funny. Other likely scenarios:

Chairman (from Toshiba): The chair wants to welcome new Steering Committee members Memory-Tech and Paramount. Philips and JVC, don't let the door hit you on the arse.

Memory-Tech: Thank you, chairman. We are a big technology contributor and the main developer of triple-layer HD DVD... (uncomfortable silence)

Chairman: The Paramount rep has the floor.

Paramount: Yeah, okay, I know I'm only sitting here because it was part of the package we got offered last year. But I sure not going to give it up because you killed your precious little format.

Chairman: (briefly considers seppuku) Okay, let us begin. (looks at the agenda) ... "HD DVD-RW specification" - skip that - "Final specifications for Triple Layer Twin Format" - nope - "China- HD DVD" - you must be joking... Okay, there's nothing left. Coffee and donuts everyone!

I'm kidding (partly).

LOL.

The DVD Forum still has its hands full trying to find a way to pull license fees from those sneaky Chinese manufacturers who aren't paying royalties.
