Question good wireless router

i want a wireless router so i can enjoy my ps3 to its full capacity
i just want something that is:

-reliable
-affordable (nothing more than $60)
-decent range (maybe even use it outside in my backyard in the summer)
- all in all i just want something that works, without the fancy bells and whistles

any suggestions?

oh, and i only need to connect one PC (if anyone was wondering)

You pay for what you are getting. Cheaper routers might slow down the speeds or incorrectly handle certain types of traffic. I recommend D-Link DIR655, currently you can get one at around $100-115. You are not buying a router for a day or two, it will stay with you for a long while and with that in mind a difference of $40 is not as important as getting a good device.

I bought a D-link router over a year ago for $35 ($50 with $15 mail-in-rebate). Don't know the model number (not at home right now) but its really close to this model.

It has worked flawlessly for me up to this point, and I have used it for PC's, laptops, PSP, Wii, and PS3. Also it has worked running a PC, laptop, and Wii/PS3 all at the same time. So I don't know if you have to buy a $100+ router to enjoy all the benefits. I've downloaded many demos off the PSN, and they never take more than 20 mins even for the 1+ gig ones. Hope this helps

check this one out.. may be helpful

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...hlight=routers as this link is a bit old, i thought I would post my comment over here too.

I have beed using the Linksys Wireless N Gigabit Gaming Router WRT 330N for the past 3 months and I think it sucks. I had a Wireless G router before and it worked great, until she died. I know the PS3 does not use "N" but this thing is the worst router I have used to date, and the most expensive. Who knows, maybe my settings are all wrong and I need to put the PS3 in a DMZ.

Any help to maximize wireless connectivity would be great.

thx

I use the Linksys WRT54GS and bought the high gain antenna's made for it and it works wonderfully. Never drops on any of my games, I have 3 laptops and 2 desktops plus the PS3 on it. Huge range (probably due to the bigger antenna's) and always a strong signal. Upstairs, downstairs, on the deck.. it's great. My PS3 is on the complete opposite end of the house and I always have full bars. Strongly recommend it.

I don't see the use in paying the extra cash for the revision 'N' routers if you don't have a PC that can take advantage of it. B/G is all you will probably need for a while.

Reading through thread I came across a setting that needed to be changed on my existing router to improve performance.
I changed ,
[54g Mode] from (54g Auto) to (54g Performance) and there's no more lag had playing COD4.....My game play may improve now

can't seem to find this setting in my router configuration page... but I did change from a setting from Wireless-N Mixed to Wireless-G Mixed. Maybe this will do something.
