We killed our Cox cable modem service a while back because our computer is such a dinosaur.
We're still not ready to buy a new computer but I was thinking maybe I'd get the Cox hi speed going again so we could get online with the PS3. If I do is the PS3 ready to go? Cable (from wall) > Splitter > Cable Modem > Ethernet Cable > PS3 ? I should be up and running with that right? I'm not exactly a computer expert so thanks for any help. ![]() |

Yes this would get you up and running.
Also, might I suggest trying out Linux for the PS3, it can then act as your new computer, if you still don't feel like shelling out for a newer one. All you would need then is a USB keyboard/mouse and you're set. I used to run my PS3 like that, just have the ethernet cord from the cable modem connecte dright to your PS3. |

Despite its lack of RAM, your PS3 will work fine as your primary computer once you install Linux on it.
An excellent wiki about all things PS3 Linux related can be found here. http://ps3wiki.qj.net/index.php/Main_Page Since you are new to Linux I would recommend running Yellow Dog Linux 5.0 as your first distro. It is sponsored by Sony and has almost every app that you would need for day to day computing tasks. The above link has all of the information about where to get it and how to install it onto your system. |

depends which ps3 you have 20gb, your gonna have to run a ether from the router or modem, wireless depending on how far you are one of my 2 ps3s is over 100ft and gets 50%-72% of the internet connection i also have 30mbps download so half of that is like 10-15mbps .... ether cable will get you the best speeds depending on ur nat settings if you have your comp locked up with firewalls galore... you might slow down alot
