Default Would you prefer that the studios reframe old TV shows for widescreen in HD?

I hear a lot about shows that are coming to HD from Universal but Im a little hesitant to pick them up because I absolutely despise fullscreen being shown on a widescreen TV I would rather them reframe it for widescreen.

I would absolutely go nuts if Paramount reframed the Star Trek series for widescreen.

What does everyone else think?

I dont care about being original. I just want the show looking GREAT.

Are you suggesting cutting the top and bottom of the frame off? Does this seem a little familiar? It should because that's what pan and scan was, except in reverse.. No that would not be cool.

no, I think he means like Law an order on tnthd, thats 16.9 and fills the screen, I think that would be worth the setback to get all the shows that are chaulk full of grain exc. first couple season of sopranos, the Shield exc. those on blu - the grain would be worth the re-buy!

Explain to me how that is achieved without cropping the original image? In other words, how can you make a square a rectangle without cutting it?

Oooh, that'd look great. Lose even more resolution from an already low-res image.

I prefer the original aspect ratio for movies and tv shows.

I hate pan and scan on wide screen movies / shows and won't watch any.
but, if an older movie or TV show was filmed in a great big square... You are not getting anything cut off and it is still framed and shot as the director intended. I can live with that just fine. I DO like the SQ up-dated though.

But, like I said before, you would suffer a loss in resolution.
How could you proportion a square into a rectangle without losing some of the image or creating a disproportionate image like the example I posted? Get on photoshop right now and try to do that. I guarantee you can't because it's not physically possible.

I just was going back to edit my post, because I realized there's no way to do it and keep the proportions. I've been sick today, I'm high on meds Not thinking too clearly, LOL.

OAR

Honestly I can't think of a tv show that is 4:3 that I would even buy.

You must not like tv that's older than eight years.. That kind of limits you tv-wise doesn't it?

Yeah with that attitude he has almost nothing to choose from. And quite almost zero comedy options. Guess he's not much of a tv person..
