Just picked up a Pioneer Elite VSX-53 two days ago as an open box item from Best Buy (It was too good of a deal to pass up). Worked great with my TV, but through my Epson 5010 Projector for some reason every 11 minutes and 36 seconds (yes, I timed it). The HDMI output would cut out for about 12 seconds and then come back on. I just did a factory reset, turned off Video Upscaling, anything I thought could be the reason for it, and nothing. I called Pioneer and it will be taken in to get fixed under warranty at least. Just sucks that there is any kind of issue like this at all considering, that it normally costs as much as it does. Anyone else have any issues like this? It sounded awesome, crisp, clean, and it kills me now that it will be getting fixed, I just hope it comes back working like a champ, and hopefully I don't need to be worried about it crapping out on me again for a long time. Or should I just return it to Best Buy for a refund and move on?

Not just the AirPlay function. I'd get 30W more power per channel, however I don't know what that difference sounds like. I'll be testing this at Best Buy this weekend, but wanted to get some fellow enthusiasts' opinions on upgrading from the 40 to the 53.

I hope you get it comes back fixed completely. My Pioneer AVR also had issues when I bought it brand new. It would freeze all the time and not respond to any command whether on the remote or the AVR itself. I had to unplug it, let it sit for hours or a day, then plug it back. Before the warranty ended, I had it fixed and it has been working like a champ since. |

Had to upgrade my receiver so I ended up getting a PE VSX-52
It's pretty great, but I'm still learning how to use it. I've got a question though, and I don't know if I'm just ignorant or what, but does this receiver not automatically display like "Dolby Digital" or stuff like that? Either way, it doesn't seem to automatically switch to a surround setting, so I've just been putting it on Optimum Surround. I'm using a 7.2 setup. Any suggestions/tips? |

Ok, well, the update is this....they couldn't find anything wrong. pioneer says its probably the HDMI wire, its obviously not, because it works on my Yamaha receiver with no issues at all. So the end result will be for me to return this item to the store. Im a little sad about it, it was a bad experience. I'm probably going to look towards another brand in the future. This piece of equipment seems very faulty with all the stuff I have been reading about brand new units having issues. I realize mine was an open box item and I will keep that in consideration when choosing a receiver in the future, but seriously, they couldn't find anything wrong, but the HDMI input cuts out every 11 minutes and 36 seconds. Only on the pioneer and through my projector only. Sucks because it sounded great when it worked. Its just not worth the headache of having a machine that doesn't work properly and not knowing what is wrong when it just doesnt function properly. If anyone has had a similar issue or ideas please let me know. Thanks.

This is very true....Thats a valid point. Like I said, it was an open box item and I knew the possibility of something like this happening, I just didn't expect the repair guy to not find anything wrong when clearly something is wrong. I had just hoped it was something stupid, because it does switch off every 11 minutes and 36 seconds as if there is a timer to switch outputs. I hear a click before it switches off on the Pioneer unit. Its so weird. Oh well...thanks for the feedback.....I'll play around with it some more before I bring it back.

That's weird i tried with my receiver and PS3 Slim and everything is correct depending on what sound track i'm listening ( even Dolby Digital ) .
You should check what surround modes are engaged and bypassing direct mode . |

go into the video section in setting bd/dvd output has 2 choices bit stream or lpcm , if you set it to bit stream your receiver should have the correct info , if its set to lpcm your receiver will read multi channel pcm ,

Here is a quick update on the VSX 53. I got it back from the repair guy. He was not able to find the problem, but I made some progress on my troubleshooting. It would seem that it only loses a signal when there are 2 devices plugged into the 2 outputs. If I leave one device plugged in it works no problem. Once I plug something else in, bam every 11 minutes it goes off. Any thoughts or ideas? Im gonna try to get back in touch with the repair guy or find another one, this is just getting silly.
