Default Would Studios Go With Newer Format Audio Instead of Uncompressed Sound?

I have Sammy BD-P1200, i know it sucks, but i love it.

It would only do 5.1 through its HDMI even though it is 1.3 HDMI

My Denon AVR 987 does not process True HD or DTS-HD or other lossless "CODEC" format

My question is what happens if studios decided to only have True HD instead of uncompressed audio?

Also i played Live Free or Die Hard i selected DTS-HD audio, my receiver still played the sound, not sure how.

You would be playing the movie's audio in Dolby Digital 5.1, either as a lossy "core" output from the Dolby TrueHD track or a separate companion DD 5.1 track on the disc.

You played the internal 1509kb/s lossy core DTS track contained within the DTS-HD Master Audio track.

The reason it's not a big deal is because honestly, not many people can tell the difference between a lossless codec and pure uncompressed audio, also many times, TrueHD or DTS HD can sound better, it depends a lot on the mix (i.e. The Rock). The reason it might be a big deal, many players can't decode both or sometimes even TrueHD (i.e. BDP S300)

I find that assertion very hard to believe. Surely people aren't that tin-eared? I'm assuming that people are using a half-decent audio setup, of course...

::sigh::

You are comparing this:

LPCM

to this:

LPCM --> LOSSLESS Codec --> LPCM

There is no difference in audio quality. They are the same. That is why it is called a LOSSLESS codec. No information is lost.

Seriously it is like taking a word document, zipping it with Winzip, unzipping it and claiming the unzipped file is different than the original.

but what if i have a notepad to open the word file and no way to get winzip.

and if all the audio came on zip file or some low quality decoding i would have no option but to go with low quality version ... or maybe core of the zip file
