I love the wipeout games for the ps2. I dont own a psp, but if I did, pure and this game would be top of the list.

Now we need to hear some news on the ps3 verison.

New Pulse screenshots with 3D-effect HUD.

EuroGamer Clark Davies interview

- Craft handling is smoother, stats are more balanced, acceleration has been improved

- Reverse tracks return, but will be designed to accomodate easy racing both ways than just something thrown together like in Fusion

- Race Campaign takes place over a series of events rather than the medal system of Pure. Advancement and competition takes place in "grids" containing races from different locations and speed classes.

- A new feature is the Mag-strip. These will allow your craft to "stick" to the track so you can race vertically or upside-down. The handling will not be affected.

- Eliminator mode returns

- Disruption bolt is retired, but three new weapons for eliminator and one returning weapon will be included. The returning weapon is the Proton Cannon, and one of the three new Eliminator-exclusive weapons is the Leach Beam, which is like the Energy Drain from WO3.

- New effects such as fire damage, HUD distortion and smoking engines added. Damage will not impact performance like in Fusion as will be purely aesthetic.

- The absorb weapon to recharge your energy mechanic will return.

- Ad-hoc and infrastructure multiplayer will be fully supported for up to eight players.

- Zone mode returns, with Zone races taking place on normal tracks rather than specific tracks. There will be a Zone craft, and this time you can choose its livery from one of the other teams.

- Downloadable content will once again be made available.

- Soundtrack will feature electronica, break beat, house, techno and drum and bass.

- Game will have a camera which allows you to take screenshots of your races

4players.de Colin Berry interview

- There will be eight starting teams and four downloadables. The starting lineup will contain FEISAR, AG-Systems, Assegai, Qirex, Piranha, Triakis, Goteki45 and EG-X, and the downloadable craft are Auricom, Harimau, Icaras and Mirage

- An editor is available that will let you create custom craft skins.

- A loyalty system will be used that will unlock team-specific extras for using them over an extended period.

- It is not yet known whether downloadable content will be region specific, Colin hopes it won't

- The three new eliminator-exclusive weapons are the Leach Beam (drains shield of craft in front), the Shuriken Cannon (like the Proton Cannon, it knocks the target off balance) and the Repulsor (as yet unknown, but may be like the Reflector from WO3)

- AI skill is adjustable, so beginners and experts alike will have appropriate competition

- Courses will have extra routes that require a great deal of skill to successfully navigate. Novice players will see more benefit sticking to the normal route, but experts can take advantage of these.

- Profiles, records and ingame screenshots can be uploaded to the official site

C&VG preview

Quote:
Pulling away from the game itself, Sony will be launching a website soon that will let you customise the paint jobs of any of the ships using a brilliant 3D flash-based tool.

You'll be able to zoom right in on the ship and edit its shell with pixel-for-pixel accuracy, then store them on your PC for transfer to your PSP - and you'll be able to do this before the game is even released.

The site will feature a gallery to show off your works to others, a place to upload ghost ships of your best lap times, and if you access it via your PSP, all your race stats from the game will be automatically uploaded to your online profile.

Speaking of online, the game will also feature online racing too, allowing you to match up with mates in a lobby and get racing - simple but it'll do.
User-created content baby! I wonder if WipEout PS3 will have this too.

Looks great, I hope we get it over in the US as well. Been feeling a little schafted since we did not get Ridge Racers 2, Tales of Eternia and Breath of Fire 3 over here.

http://www.wipeout-game.com/

The site above and the game both use your PLAYSTATION Network account for sign-in. You can edit craft skins using a Shockwave application on the website, save the results and then when you sign into the game the skins should get imported in. There may be a menu option to manually do that.

Nice to see the PSN finally being used for PSP and website features too.

There's a demo up on the UK PLAYSTATION Store, a very impressive one indeed. The screenshots don't do this game justice.
