Default HDMI Switch Question

Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to get a hdmi switch and hook it up so i can go back and forth using a computer and a HD cable box. My monitor or computer doesnt like it when i unplug the dvi cable then try to plug it back in because i get a blank screen. I also don't want to have to shutdown and restart the computer everytime i wanna go from one to the other. Kind of a switch on the fly but still give my computer a signal somehow so i can get it back without having to restart the computer. I just bought a 24 dell monitor with HDCP enabled. I have not tested any switchers so i was hoping someone would know of a switcher that is able to switch back and forth between computer and hd cable box without having to restart the computer every time you wanna go from one to the other. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

~Regards
Marc

You can use a HDMI switcher to switch between your PC and the cable box. When you select your cable box via the switch, the computer may lose the connectivity to the monitor and you will end up in a similar situation. That is you might have to reboot etc. The switch box will at least stop you plugging and unplugging your HDMI cable.

Please note that it is not recommended to plug and unplug HDMI cable while equipment is switched on as this could damage equipment. Therefore it is better to switch of all connected equipment when you plug or unplug the cable.

If you are using a tos link for audio, you could get a switch box that will switch tos together with HDMI. Make sure that sw box is HDCP compliant. Quality of the switch boxes vary as well. Some may not support 1080p and HDMI1.3.
