I have a mitsubishi wd-65734 65 inch dlp and love it. I have been screwing around with the settings, I usually watch it in a lighted room and am wondering if some of you guys might give me a hint on what settings you are using.
Currently I use natural, for base picture setting
Darkfield off
contrast 24-28
brightness 22-24
color 28-32
tint even
Perfect color and tint I left on factory settings,
any help would be appreciated

I have a Samsung 61" DLP and freakin love the thing. My thoughts on the Mitsubishi 73" is that I really want one, but saving for a house at the moment. My next upgrade will be the $30,000 home theatre room I have planned.

I have a 65" version, DLP has got to be the bang-for-the-buck winner. If I had a bigger budget I'd probably buy a Pioneer Kuro plasma today, but the "best" is really a moving target right now.

Here is the thing, I've heard or read complaints about every kind of HDTV there is. Each technolog (DLP, LCD, even Plasma) has visual quirks that drive some people nuts. The key to being happy with your choice is to judge with your own eyes what is good.

I have the same set and I love it! I got it for 1600 bucks because my brother worked at CC.

Yeah I have found reviews about every HDTV out there. You can find good and bad stuff about everyone of them. I agree that what it boils down to is if you are happy with the picture quality. I just watched Ice Age BD on mine and it was literally a better picture than when I saw it in the theater.

I think maybe you're talking about the Toshiba DLP's. I have heard of that being the case with them.

I actually went into Several different Home Theatre Stores comparing the different 1080p RPTV choices, so I got to see this one sitting beside Sony's, JVC's, Samsung's and even Toshiba's(what a joke). After seeing what each of these looked like with Planet Earth Playing on them, all having been calibrated, I have to say the Samsung and Mitsubishi are a Virtual tie for the best PQ, followed by JVC & then Sony. The Toshiba was so far behind I had to ask if it was a 720p screen or if perhaps there was something wrong with the display model.

I got the Mitsubishi 60" DLP model last month and love it. But I had to tweak the settings a lot in the beginning to get the picture to my liking.
My settings are similar to yours, but I have the Brightness a lot higher. My screen is extremely dark if I have it below 35.

The 73" Mits is my dream TV but the wife said my 65" CRT had to die first before I got a new one. I do have the 57" Mits DLP in my Movie/Game room and the picture is excellent.

Default Dlp

I was once a big fan of Mitsubishi DLP but have now scene the light. I have the 52525 and have to admit it is the biggest piece of crap i have ever bought. These and the 62 inch of the same vintage are garbage. I hope that they fixed the problems with constant failures after about a year or two. I hope you bought the exended warranty since my repairs have been more than I paid for the TV and its only barely 4 years old. Yes I bought the extended warranty thank God. I hear that there is a class action lawsuit being filed about these two models.

I'm curious, how much of a difference for the better was your picture after the calibration? I may want to try your settings. I haven't had mine professionally calibrated but I have played around with it enough to make it better than the factory settings.
Let me know how much improved it is.
Thanks.

Obi,

Yes the ISF calibration is well worth the money. Not only do they calibrate your TV but also your components (blu ray, PS3 etc.)

All the colors are very natural almost like a plasma feel. Like for instance on Iron Man. When he comes out of the cave from being held. The rocks around the entrance have much more detail on them and have a natural color. Everything doesn't look blue so to speak.

The gray level and black levels are set correctly. Giving your Tv the best possible picture.
