Default Mitsubishi 73" DLP HDTV thoughts

Hi alll,
I'm new to the forums. I recently upgraded to the Mitsubishi 73" 1080p DLP HDTV. My wife and I love this baby. It was actually her idea to get it. I have to keep her. Does anyone else have this model? If so How do you like it?

I sold Mits TV's. I am a big fan of the Diamond DLPs.

There is no way to get better bang for your buck for picture size than a DLP, and the Mits Diamond DLPs have a better picture than any of the LCDs out there to boot (and many cheaper plasmas too).

They are light, not many parts, and very low maintenance.

I have the same TV with 4 HDMI.
Great buy, got it from Amazon.com, Free shipping and no sales tax.
Bought a 3 year warranty from Squaretrade.com, for less than 200.00

This is my second Mitsubishi TV, first was a 60" 4x3 projection 6 years ago

I have the 57" Mitsubishi and it is a great looking set. PQ is unreal, couldn't beat it for the price.

That's where I got mine from. It was 2,400.00, stand 499.00 no sales tax and free shipping. This is by far the best TV I've owned to date. I've tested all kinds of BD's and get no blur or pixelation at all. Plus plenty of HDMI inputs and others.

Amazon also has the 65" version for only 1499.00. same deal and the stand for that one is 399.00

I had a Hitachi 51" HD CRT which is now in the bedroom. My wife said it was too small for our home theater. That's all I needed to hear.
No more going to the movies except for a select couple of movies.

I dislike viewing any RPTV, of any kind make or model ..but the newer MITS RPTV DLP's look pretty decent, esp a 73" one Mitsubishi has the best track record for longest lasting TVs, we've only had Mits and Sony.

My opinion still stands for Sony XBr4/Samsung 81 LCD for arresting picture, but the DLP is the best you can possibly buy for the value as it is much cheaper than paying 32-38,000 on a 70" LCD.

I don't have it but I've been able to watch it at friends houses.

How much does it cost where you bought it?

I didn't buy the warranty. I rarely buy them because the item is covered for a year by the manufacturer.

I have a Mits 73" DLP HDTV bought a couple years ago just sitting in my Garage because the Light engine went out. It is a huge paper weight. I have heard that it will cost about $1000 to $1500 to fix it. The original owner of the TV didn't get the extended warrenty and I believe that this failed right after it expired. He gave me the TV and just said pay to get it fixed. I thought that was cool, until I found how much it was to fix it.

These sets have mediocre PQ. They still use wobulation to cheat their way to 1080P with half the number of horizontal pixels compared to true 1920x1080 LCoS based RPTVs from Sony and JVC. If you like quantity over quality then the 73" is your TV.

I have the 57 Mitsubishi HDTV as well. Bought it the day after Thanksgivings in 2006 and it plays great. Then 4 months later I got my Blu-ray player and have been in HD heaven since then.

Mediocre? Are you kidding me? If you consider this TV mediocre, what do you base it on? Did you own one?

If you're referring to the bulb module that you can change yourself, you can purchase them for about 170.00, and it shows you right in the manual how to change it out. Just google that TV model number bulb.

I have tweaked mine a little differently from the factory settings. There are 4 brightness picture modes. factory setting was set at brilliant. I set it to natural. I personally think it looks better that way. Also that will extend the life of the bulb considerably.
Also the contrast was set at 100%. I turned that down a bit. Left everything else as it was. Running Blurays at 1080p. Most of the stuff we watch looks better on this TV than when I saw it in the movies.
