Default i can't complain

I just won a core 2 duo macbook in a radio contest and I love it. but then again I haven't started using a lot of the higher level functions yet. but that looks pretty sick. do macbooks use a different type of ram from pc notebooks? I want to bump my 512 to a 1 or 2 gig. anybody know?

it was rock 105.3 fm here in san diego. the mikey morning show had a contest call ''pc horror stories'' and I had a really bad one. I recod music and do photography so i've wanted a mac for a while. but I think i'll need more ram to record with it.

and this 8 core monster looks absolutely beautiful. I took more time to read about it at that link.

anyone want to buy a lightly used kidney?

Lucky! I wish that I had won a MacBook. I won a Gateway laptop from an Intel contest on New Year's Eve. It was the "Multiply Yourself" promotion advertising the new Core 2 Duo. The specs on it are pretty basic, but it was free

Oooohhh, me wants one

I'm still on my dual G5, a good machine but I sure wouldn't mind some processor overhead for mixing audio. Not that I have much time for it anymore (that's why I'll bite my tongue and resist the temptation) but boy what a toy

This is cool stuff, but I must ask this, and please don't take it the wrong way:

If you're not into serious high end gaming (which Macs really don't do)...what in the world do you need quad core and especially 8 core on up for anyways?

To be fair: We're barely starting to see benefits of multicore show up even in the most high end of PC games.

Yes, I understand the benefits of multicore in general.

Mainly for visualizing molecular structures or analyzing geological data, things the average computer user has no use for.

When I get a job in 4 months, I will probally end up buying a Mac Pro, just not the 8 core because its $3500 without a monitor.

These are workstation units (designed for corporate and those that involve complex power such as graphics, movie making, etc.).

That said, I do wish that Apple would release a product using Kentsfield (or desktop quad-core/octo-core) but I guess that's just wishful thinking.

If you've ever tried to render a 3D animation scene (3dsmax on PC or Maya on MAC) or mixed music natively (without the help of a dsp system like Protools) you will appreciate every single core that gets added to your system

Is this two quad cores, or has there been an octo-core released?

These are two 3.0ghz "Clowertown" quad-core processors put together to form the "octo-core".

Question

It is two Intel Xeon processors, 3.0GHz quad-core “Clovertown” processors. It's the fastest processors that Intel makes.

Ok, now I have some questions.

-Does a dual or quad core processor have 2 chips on 1 piece of silicone?
-Would a quad core processor would have four clocks?

If each processing core had its own clock, this means that the Mac Pro would have 24ghz. { 3.00ghz*4*2=24 } I don't think that it has 24 ghz, that's unreal, but I would like to know for sure because I have yet to find an anwser to this after looking through 5 pages of Google.
