Default Blu-Ray and DTS Digital Sound

Hi!
This is my first post.
I have been keeping up with the announcements (at the Winter CES 2006) of the first Blu-Ray titles. Does any one know which titles will have DTS Digital Surround??

Jodi

Welcome!

I don't believe any specific announcements regarding BD soundtracks have been announced yet other than that The Fifth Element will have a lossless audio track.

I notice that Amazon says the HD-DVD player on their site will have only 2 channels DolbyTrueHD....

There was a cryptic quote that the $1800 could decode DTS HD (++) and presumably Dolby Digital HD, so presumably there will be some titles floating around fairly soon after they start releasing the material. DTS is supposed to be forward and backward compatible - same with Dolby Digitial.
the are DTS HD clips for the following movies so presumably will be encoded with DTS The Fantastic Four, Flight Plan, Robots, Moulin Rouge.

Hopefully there will be no difference between the two HD formats.

Default Blu-ray and DTS Digital Sound

Some of the clips sound promising, particularly "Flightplan".
Though I am an ardent fan of DTS sound, DTS does, however, have a notorious history of releasing demo DVDs containing clips from films with DTS sound -- yet the actual film on DVD does NOT have DTS sound.
For example, one of the DTS Demo DVDs I own contains a clip from the Paramount film "The Relic". "The Relic" DVD itself only has English Dolby Digital.
But I will be monitoring news of BD and HD-DVD releases, as I do conventional DVD releases everyday, and will have to keep fingers crossed.

Jodi

What is the difference between dolby digital 5.1, and dolby digital HD? Same goes for DTS (5.1) and DTS++ (HD)?

Can the regular dolby digital and DTS receivers play DB HD and DTS++ (HD)?

Thank you.

The answer is that Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD are much higher bitrate sound systems (up to lossless sound identical to studio masters).

Dolby True HD can however be played back on a standard Dolby Digital decoder and will sound a little better.
However for the full effect you will need a Dolby True HD capable amplifier/receiver.

Other posters can probably give you a better explanation.

Hmmm....I, and the rest of us for that matter, will have to start watching out for such receivers, pre-amps and processors. I think this might require a new thread.

Does anybody know the logo for Dolby TrueHD?

And what about DTS HD?

To look for when you buy a new receiver.

You are saying that Dolby True HD can be played on a standard dolby digital decoder and will sound a litlle better (did you write this sentence correcly?).

Then why would you wanna buy a Dolby True HD capable receiver?

Thanks

Because you won't get the full effect of lossless audio without the complete setup.

But yeah it's backwards compatible and will sound a little better than standard DD.
