Default PS3 question, how to switch to 720p ?

I dont have a 1080p monitor just a 1080i/720p monitor. Now watching blu-ray movies on 1080i is by far better than watching them in SD for sure but when I watch say Discovery channel in 720p its of course leaps and bounds over the 1080i picture. Can you switch to 720p on the player?

720p is not currently supported, but may be added via firmware in a future update.

Nope, the PS3 can only do 1080p/i and 480p on blu-ray right now. Hopefully they'll remedy that in a future firmware update.

Discovery HD Theater (U.S.) is 1080i. This isn't difficult information to look up, if you don't have the channel. National Geographic is 720p, though.

If your Discovery HD channel, and not the Discovery BDs, says 720p, then you need to check your cable box setting. It should be 1080i.
