Default Annoyed by Playstation Store-only Games

about the Playstation Store:
Ok first let me be honest, I don't know exactly what it is worth since i have never tried it, as my PS3 is not connected to the net (my net connection is through wire and it works fine so i don't plan to shell out extra cash to get myself a WiFi connection that would bring me nothing that I don't have now, except maybe the worry that some neighbor DL's off my connection)

But what I know is that I feel annoyed by it. The reason is that it seems that more and more games are getting now available through it. Why does that bother me you might ask, well let me give you an example: Wipeout HD, for a long time I was looking forward to getting the Bluray game as it has been announced for about a year but then it turned out that the game will only be released for downloads !
Sony, what's wrong with releasing a Disc of it ? I thought you guys supported Blurays ? I don't want to download it and keep it on my harddrive. it can crash or get deleted then it's lost. And I won't mention the time it will take to download a 1080p game that must be tens of Gigs in size. that was just an example as it seems that more and more games are getting released on the PS store only, anyone see a problem here or am I the only one ?

A record is kept of ALL your downloaded purchases. If your hard drive crashes, download it, again. You don't have to pay for it twice.

Downloading smaller games can benefit both parties unless you don't like the internet. No company can be all things to all people. There will always be upset people no matter what. The many outweigh the few. It's an inexpensive way to distribute smaller content. You just ended up being one of the few that don't seem to like to use the internet...sorry.

I prefer downloads, loading is faster from HDD and I don't have to get a disc at all. I understand why people want a disc but its not necessary imo.

Plug your PS3 into your wired connection.

Regarding games being available for download. There are several factors. It costs money to put that game on a bunch of Blu-ray discs. Being download only can help profit return be even bigger, especially on a relatively cheaply made game.

Its a marketing thing. Having some full games for download---some people want this, are looking for it. By offering this variety you are attracting more people.

Its also an investors thing. Having downloadable games, proving concepts and features. It keeps your shareholders happy and your stock in good shape.

Take "home" for example. That whole thing is going to be EXPENSIVE to launch and then maintain. It could tank within weeks, who knows. But just the act of launching it will raise stocks. It will have to not tank of course, to keep those stock high and continuing to raise.

It's a great means to sell/distribute low-volume titles that prolly wouldn't have broke even with a disc release at the current time.

When my PS3 crashed and I got a new one under warranty, I just restored my old account and re-downloaded my games. And I think the biggest game I have downloaded so far is maybe 500gb at the most. I dont have Warhawk though. Most games on PSN are like 200mb games, surprisingly. It's super easy and you can be confident about always having your purchases!

I think you meant to say 500 megs, not gigs. They don't even make a 500 gig harddrive that will fit into the PS3 yet.

Also, most PSOne games are only a few megs. flOw ended up being about 200 megs including the expansion pak and it's a 1080p game.

Now, I also prefer having my games on Blu-ray but for small/cheap games I have no problem downloading them.

Im going to assume he meant 500mb, and that the g jumped in there.
For if he downloaded a 500gb game then truly I would visit him to see
how it plays for it would probably contain a large universe.

It would be cool if SCE released a PSN "Greatest Hits" Blu-ray that had all of the PSN games that don't suck.

LOL! I'm sure that if you downloaded every PSN game it would be like 8 gigs. Most of them are under 300 megs.

Capcom's been doing many new PSN games. I'll get Bionic Commando Rearmed next month, but I thihnk they should release a disc with all of their PSN games once there's enough of them.

I believe it's somewhat likely. I believe Microsoft has released a similar disc for the Xbox360.

Only thing that annoys me about the downloadable games... if there's no demo, how can I know I haven't wasted $10 on a game?

If they don't do demo, wish they'd at least either do limited play or even lower-cost rental (hey, cell phones have doing *that* for a long time now!).

At least, so far, I haven't really felt like any of the few that I have bought was a waste of money. Just wish Pain would be updated with a bit more than just new characters.

Good question... If there's no demo, how can I know I didn't waste $$$ on a game?

And I answer...

Back in the day before the interwebs you had this thing called magazines that gave reviews... then you had friends who had money to blow on chancing the games and they would play it and tell you what was up. Taking these two factors in consideration you would make or not make the plunge to buy the game.

Moving to the future now that we have the interwebs you have these things called websites that have reviews. You also have forums where people with cash to blow on chancing these games give their opinion and tell you what is up. Taking these two factors into consideration you should be able to (hopefully) make a decision on whether you think you'll enjoy the game or not.

I agree however because I like demos just as much as the next guy, but debunking a service for not offering it for everything is a bit extreme.

You don't get it, i like the internet but I also like to have my games on Bluray discs (which by the way was the very reason of this two years old war right ? to have one's favs movies and by extention, games on HD Discs)

And tell me buddy, what's wrong with pleasing EVERYBODY ? what's wrong with having major titles like Wipeout HD for download AND ALSO on Disc ? aren't you gonna sell more ? aren't you gonna please everybody ?

Oh and Wipeout HD is not some minor title it's a major one, so today Wipeout HD on download only, tomorrow, all RPG's, Actions, Races, Tactics etc, for Download only ? let's see if you will like that
