The movies? or players?

For one, nobody will haggle over the movies. Second, stores can/should put together a package price together for a TV and blu-ray player.

WTF, should I take off my Rolex next time? Its like pulling teeth at some BB just to even price match with a printed ad. Makes me wonder how did this guy become a mgr if he hates to see product leave the store treating it like if it was his first born leaving the house.

They get paid whether you walk or not, and most times they'd rather not be bothered.

Managers on the other hand are different, as they actually get paid for the numbers of the store . . . which is even more reason most of the regular sales people couldn't care less. I don't understand the mentality of having a company that is 100% sales based, yet offering absolutely no incentives to employees to sell the product. Sure, you may not make as much off of a single item, but I guarantee units per transaction and close rate would be increased pretty damn quick.

I call it negotiation.

At Best Buy I've gotten discounts on mostly HT-related stuff....TVs, speakers, receivers, etc. I do it for myself and for my family too. Sometimes the sales guys won't budge at all so I move on to the next guy/store and sometimes they do. I just have find the right guy. There are 2 BB stores within 10 minutes from my house and a few more if I drive a little bit more. So I got options.

My girlfriend hates it, but the price is NOT always the price, so it's at least worht a shot!
My travels and life experience has taught me to NEVER PAY RETAIL!

In the US, more times than not that amounts to using coupons or waiting patiently for a sale because I/WE NEVER PAY US RETAIL.

Haggling is funner though.

I'd like to back the others who said they've worked at BB and it gets frustrating when people try to come up and grill you for a discount.

First off, we can't just go throwing around discounts on product, we need to get managerial approval, who then question our reasoning for discounting in the first place.

Secondly, I'm not about to stand there and haggle with you, let someone over hear us, then come up to a co-worker and say "Dan said this is what you can do for me".

Want the discount, work there for 30 days and deal with people asking for help on the price.

On the otherhand I don't mind helping knock off lots of money if you are buying accessories, service plans, installs (in fact you already get a lot of discount on those services if you're grouping them all together.)

call it whatever you want. look for an open box tv that is a new model buy it. then buy a new one in the box. then you return the open box one without the box but with the new receipt.

works like a charm

I'm considering seeing if they'll do the same (or better) on a second ps3 as I need another blu-ray player for upstairs.

with Best Buy i have a hard time. But Circuit City as always with no problem helped me out. they even once matched kingdom of heaven with amazon.com instead of spending 36.00 + tax i got it for 23 bucks.

Yeah, restocking fees work like a charm too. They will charge you big bucks to return a high priced product without it's packaging. Your system is flawed. I guess some of the employees are just young kids and would miss the fact that the receipt shows the NEW TV. A manager would probably catch it and ask wheres the box when he looked at your receipt.

Ever been to a garage sale or swap meet?

Haggling is the name of the game.

As the internet continues to surge in revenue, B&M stores will have to give even more consideration to their pricing strategy to keep up or THEY WILL FAIL.

To be able to haggle, you have to find the right salesperson and you have to be willing to walk away.

Most people are complete mouthbreathing retards. They go into the store, play around on a keyboard, and they must say to themselves, "Yep, this is a computer alright!" Then they buy said computer. Or they go to the store and look at the TV screens. "This Westinghouse screen is the brightest. Pack that one up!"

When I buy a HT item, I research for a few weeks and know exactly what the average retail price is, as well as any sales price. I then wait for the price to reach a point I'm satisfied with and go to a big box store and try to pricematch. If they don't do it, I'll walk. Most of the time when you haggle with big box retailers, you're not saving any money because they want you to buy service plans (not only a scam, but a complete ripoff) or 500% markup accessories.

I think I saved about $250 on my TV last time I bought it because I took advantage of the calibration service and got my PS3 for $300, in addition to them marking down the TV to match CC. I knew exactly what I was doing and knew what my boundaries were in regards to what the store could afford to do.

Oh, and Best Buy is ****ing evil. What other retailer gets sued by 3 states in 2 years due to shady business practices AND has a federal racketeering charge?

I can see how you may take it as offensive, but "Disgustingly" offensive? I think you're taking it a little too far..... there have been many conversations here that are wrong on MANY levels, I think the intent nor the outcome of his statement was quite as bad as you're making it out to be.

And how many levels exactly does it offend you on? I can see a couple perhaps a few.... but not that many.....

Exactly why I do not patronize BB whenever possible. Which turns out to be me walking into a BB store maybe, MAYBE, once a year.

Yeah I just kind of went through this the other day. I just bought one of those new samsung series 6 lcds and didn't get know about any of the offers. So I went back to get my free 3 blurays and 100 off a ps3. The location I was at said they didn't have any of the packs in stock but another store 30mins away had them. So went down to the other store and they tried to give me the run saying I bought it at the other store so I have to get it from them. Then they tried to tell me that the ps3 isn't a bluray player and that I'd have to buy the direct TV and geeksquad install to get the deal when it says very clearly get a ps3 for 100 off when buying any lcd priced greater then 100. Overall I did get my movies and ps3, but it should have only taken 5-10mins instead of an hour.

do explain? i'm not accustomed to "haggling" when i enter a store. it's understandable if there's a defect or an open box, but for a new item, aside from price matching, haggling seems very primative. i would assume that there were overheads that need to met. Best Buy != swap meet ...

i'm sorry you took offense to something that petty... obviously you aren't familar with the internets. assume the position and brace yourself...

If I were you, I'd call the customer service line and say that the store attempted to deny you an advertised promotion. As can be seen in the Best Buy circulars, it's right there in the print- $100 off a Playstation 3. I'm spiteful enough where I'd spend hours just to make sure some ******* that tried to rip me off got at least some mark on his record or that someone heard my complaint.

I hope you got names.

Anyway, in response to why the comment about "third world country" was offensive- you have to be pretty dense to not understand why that comment was offensive and ignorant. Let's start with- is there a negative connotation assigned to either haggling or third-world countries? If so, where has it come from and is it justified? "Civilized" countries have committed some terrible human atrocities, even within the last 60 or so years. Just ask the Japanese, Black, Native American, or any woman.
