Hey all,
I just wanted to get your input on both of these recievers as to which one you think is better and why. The pioneer seems to have better options, but heard the sony might be a better buy. Thoughts? Thanks |

I don't know Sonys ES series receivers are very well built and I think they are much better then Blu Steal says they are...I would get the one that fits your needs and features...

IMHO, If I were to get an ES receiver, Id take a look at the new 5300ES. I think thats the only receiver from Sony I'd even compare to the Elite series of Pioneer. Of course you cant go wrong with the Elite 94.

I have the 4300 and I love it, I know that there are maybe some more suited for others, but I have had zero issues and is an incredible receiver IMHO. The 5300 is another very good option (6 HDMI inputs and I believe two out)

I'm one of those guys that'll buy a reciever and keep it for like 10 years. This would be replacing my Technics system I baught back in 95'
![]() So by the sounds of it your saying the pioneer is a better buy over sony, even though it only has a 2 year warrenty? |

Normally, I am a big fan of Sony's ES product line but lately their lineup has been sorely lacking. Their amp sections are rated at two channels driven simultaneously. Reading most reviews (Home Theater mag & Ultimate AV just reviewed the 4300), you will find the Sony runs out of steam when all channels are run simultaneously. Ultimate AV reported that the amp reaches 150wpc when two channles are driven but the amp falls to 45wpc when all channels are driven... a big drop in power... they said "when pushed to reference levels, the Sony started to run out of steam and sounded slightly strained.". Definitely not a good sign.
My favorite right now is the Onkyo lineup. They are beefy and the top three or four models pretty much deliver over 100wpc pretty easily. It shows in their weights too. The Onkyos are about 50lbs, the Sony is 33lbs, a good 33% less. The only issue with the Onkyo is that units prior to firmware 1.08 have a DTS HD Master decoding flaw which can be remedied by flashing the DSPs from a CD player. I have two Sony ES receivers, a Denon receiver and the Onkyo. The Onkyo is easily the best value. I must admit that the Sony graphical OSD is pretty cool and easy to maneuver about in. |

I would definitly recommend the Pioneer VSX-94TXH. I have it connected to; Mitsubishi DLP 65" PS3 XBox 360 Nintendo Wii Elite 300CD/DVD Carosel HP Quad Core 2 Duo Media Center 2 Klipsch KLF-30 5 Klipsch Surround Speakers 2 Klipsch KSW-15 Monster Power Home Theater PowerCenter Surge Protector And I have EVERY device connected HDMI and Optical!!! I also have two Adcom Amps that I didn't need to connect because the pioneer simply does the job!!! EVERYTHING that is converted through the Elite is very crisp and sounds amazing!!! It maybe alot of work, but I would pick it up from Best Buy, try it, then decide if you want to keep it. A purchase like that should be satisfied or not transaction aka, no hassle return. Once you get it home, then you can really configure your theater!!! SUBPERB!!!! |

I own a 5300ES and wouldn't trade it for anything. I need the extra inputs and zones/rooms for my lay-out. I have connected to the family/theater room, and porch (zone 2) and garage (zone 3), and can run all 3 zones independent of each other (source and volume). Be ready for the hostility towards Sony receivers. Which is unfounded.
