Default I Was Banned From AVS For This?

There's a thread over there asking why anyone would oppose a format war. I don't have the exact text but I wrote something like:

"Can't wait to see those low-bitrate LOTR encodes. Too bad only one format has sufficient capacity. Sorry, I just don't buy Microsoft's viral marketing about VC-1."

I ended with a quote...

"640K of memory should be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates

Now seriously, is this enough to get someone banned? Strange, strange bunch of fanatics over there.

It is at that place, since MS basically has free run and you dare not criticize them in even the slightest fashion.

Believe me: It makes perfect sense.

Neither do I. I just enjoy the high points when stuff shows up in the Rant thread.

The Truth hurts(HD-DVD)

They simply don’t want people to hear the truth.

I just think it's amusing to read one of these threads by another refugee. They have done more self inflicted harm to themselves as any member could.

Oh the irony. I was banned for being an "admitted viral poster". Of course they can't provide any evidence of this amusingly paranoid claim. It must have been the dig on Bill Gates and, by proxy, one of his flunkies.

I can sort of understand the anguish of being an early adopter of a format in decline but come on - it's a spirited discussion. The Sony bashing there is more vicious than anything I've ever said. Someone is clearly getting paid off.

Maybe they thought you were serious when you posted:

I admit, when I was first approached by Sony President Ken Kutaragi to be part of Operation Def-Ray (the early code name for Phase Hydra) I was skeptical. Why should I get paid for posting the obvious? But after careful consideration, I accepted.

Two months into my training on the Japanese mainland, I caught wind of a plan to deploy special undercover units tasked with placing high-level HD-DVD proponents and forum regulars in compromising positions. At that point I walked away. I don't know what became of Phase Hydra and I don't want to know.

Now get out of that darkened home theater and get some air.

Too funny...

According to the HD-DVD fanatics, Phase Hydra is Sony's secret plan to seed newsgroups and forums with paid Blu-Ray proponents.

I thought it was a bit ridiculous and posted a very tongue-in-cheek response to an accusation I was involved in "Phase Hydra".

It's their site so yes it is enough to get you banned.

They sent me a warning and called me a troll for responding to a Poll on the front page. I think the question was "How long will it take for HD-DVD regain the lead?" One of the answers was "Never". I clicked that and said they should "stick a fork in it." It wasn't my fault the poll was linked to the HD-DVD forum, jeez.

That's hilarious. Nothing like playing with the heads of conspiracy theorists.

AVS Forum is a Microsoft site? I don't think so. Although I wouldn't be surprised if money is changing hands. They certainly give the MS "insiders" free reign to spread FUD. I've been on the front-lines of the Java war so I know how this bunch operates.

By the way, I think the Blu-Ray insiders there handle themselves professionally. I honestly can't say the same for the other side.

It may as well be an MS site.
