Thumbs down Man on Fire complaint

Well I just watched my Man on Fire BD and it looked great! Then I went to check the bonus material... there wasn't any! I dug out my DVD copy that I'd purchased but never watched and there was a whole second disc of bonus material, plus two commentaries on disc 1. What's up with that? This BD is one of the most pricey out there in Canada, minimum $36.99-$39.99, and it's a barebones release when they could have added so much additional content. The Pirates movies are two discs and cost $29.99-$32.99 at most. Ripoff.

And yeah you could make the argument that the bonus features wouldn't have been in HD anyway, but most BDs are this way. What about the people who didn't already buy it on DVD, they don't get any bonus. And why not at least throw in the commentaries? Uncool.

Didn't you even look at the rear of the cover before buying it? No offence meant.

I ordered it on Amazon. And I'd have ordered it anyway but it still irritated me when I realized there was so much on the DVD release.

Well I'm not complaining as if I wouldn't have bought it if I knew. I'm just trying to make a point that there was a ton of extra stuff they could have put on, especially at that price. The picture quality was great at least. And I got it on sale for $20. I just wanted to complain instead of sucking it up.

Fox unfortunately, mate. Even though Man On Fire is fairly recent film, it still got the sh*t end of the stick.

I'd seen it two times before, didn't get a chance to watch the rereleased DVD yet. Man, I thought maybe someone else would be irritated too, not have people start picking on me. Oh well, thats the way the internet goes.

Well I already explained, but I would have bought it regardless of the features. It's one of my favorite movies and I saw it on sale for $20 when it's normally $40 around here. So I didn't bother researching the special features. I just wanted to share my irritation and say "What's up with that!"

I never watch the bonus material.... if I could have purchased Blade-Runner and Close Encounters in 1 Disc "Movie only" versions I would have.

Bonus material is nice to have. Sometimes you will get new insight into the movie. I didn't even know Man on Fire had previously been made into a movie in the past. Or that it originally took place in Italy and was based on a true story.

I have over 300 Dvd's and the only times I ever watched bonus material/extras was when they pertained to history. Some examples are like Gladiator, Alexander, Kingdom of Heaven etc. I don't really care how the movie was made, I just want to see, and enjoy the final product.

I can understand your disappointment but even so, it's a great movie that looks great on blu-ray so at least you have that. Also, don't think you're alone. There are a lot of people upset over the barebones titles Fox has been releasing. While, I don't care that much for extras, I wish they would include them so that people that do want them are satisfied, especially since they're some of the more expensive titles.

Anyway, this movie is kind of strange. When someone asks me to list my favorite movies, I'll almost always forget about this one. But, every time I watch it I come away thinking about how much I liked the movie and think of it as one of my favorites. Not sure why that is.

I for one see extras as just bonus really and not expect them. I do however just won't pay $39.99 for a movie unless its some crazy Ultimate final cut edition that I just have to have. $20 for Man on Fire BD barebones is a good deal.

Normally, I'd say just watch the special features on the DVD and not complain... But Fox's prices are extremely high. And for them to ask that much for just the film without any features, while you can get Walk Hard, a 2 disc set with 2 versions of the film, loads of features, some even exclusive to Blu-Ray, all for $24.99 on Amazon.com right now... And then there's tons of Fox titles that are $34.99 each in store (or $27.99 on Amazon.com) and they don't have any of the features that are on the DVD. I do think it looks bad to people who are thinking about getting into Blu-Ray. They pick a Fox title up, see the price, see the lack of ANY features, and think "ha! yeah right! I'll stick to DVD!"

But Fox does seem to be kind of hit and miss. I, Robot is nice, but then ID4 is missing a lot of the 5 Star Features (including an extended cut of the film).

I agree with you. For $30, a Blu-Ray needs to have ALL the same special features as a $15 DVD, no exceptions! There is no excuse for a Blu-Ray catalog release that has no special features.

I got the steelbook DVD edition of Man on Fire and the reason I haven't upgraded yet is because the blu-ray doesn't have any of the extras on it.

Have you thought of getting the UK version? It has all the special features and is region-free:

Does the UK disc have all the special features on the Blu-ray, or did they just throw in the DVDs from that special edition set? And if they're on the BD, that's great for convenience but I wonder if the compression hurts the A/V.
