Why are the majority of discs, especially Sony, who is the big push behind Blu-ray, not giving this medium the audio it requires, that is the lossless formats of DTS Master Audio or Dolby TrueHD. Hardly any discs are being produced with either of these audio formats. I want my HD theather to sound great too, not just look great.

They are competely right. DD TrueHD, DTS HD Master Audio, and LPCM are all provide lossless sound. LPCM (uncompressed PCM) just takes up a lot more space to achieve the same sound as the other lossless audio codecs, but Blu-ray has the space and bandwidth/throughput to do this.
Actually, on The Departed, the LPCM track on Blu-ray sounded better to the reviewers at HighDefDigest than the DD TrueHD track on the HD DVD version. |

I am sorry for I'd like to ask some stupid questions... 1. Does the uncompressed PCM's SQ batter than DTS-HD MA & DD Ture-HD? 2. Does BD's DD5.1 SQ batter than current DVD ? (compare with same tital... like as Eight Below) Last edited by Vincent_Hsu; 04-20-2007 at 06:15 AM. |

Technically, there should not be a difference in lossless audio codecs. But, if you read the review on highdefdigest.com for "The Departed", you will read something different. Personally, I don't know if it is HD DVD's hardware/software implementation or DD TrueHD really isn't truly lossless, but the Blu-ray uncompressed PCM track sounds better than the HD DVD DD TrueHD track on "The Departed".

DVDs Dolby Digital 5.1 has a maximum bitrate of 448 kb/s (some are 384 kb/s) while Blu-rays Dolby Digital 5.1 has one of 640 kb/s which is 40% less compression. DTS 5.1/6.1 on DVDs can be 1.5 Mbs but most of them after the first ones use only half that bitrate while on Blu-rays the basic DTS core is the full 1.5 Mb/s (1.5 Mb seconds = 1500 kb/s) |

Denon will have their specs out by the end of June. DTS were demoing DTS-HD Master Audio at CES this year. Most of the studios will move to using DTS-MA or TrueHD once the formats are more widely used in receivers. After all, there are still no TrueHD receivers on the market either. |

I don't think there are any 6.1 tracks that utilize 1.5 Mbps, only 5.1 when it comes to DVD-Video. http://www.spannerworks.net/reference/10_6a.asp |

So can players extract a standard DD 5.1 track from DD TrueHD, like they can extract a DTS track from DTS HD MA? If so, I'd prefer DD TrueHD just because DD sounds so much better than DTS on my amp. I think this is because my amp can only compress the dynamic range for DD audio not DTS, and I find the dynamic range of DTS excessive, with much of it either too quiet or too loud.
If I bought a more modern amp / receiver (mine is a denon avr 3802), do they all nowadays tend to have the ability to compress the dynamic range of DTS audio? |

The DD core in the TrueHD FBA stream can be 448kbps or 640kbps. |

Might wanna clarify things with paidgeek. So basically BD has enough flexibility to do lots of things with soundtracks: embed and/or seperate. fuad |
