Default Lg Blu Ray Writer For Mac

Dear All,

I have just purchased a LG blu ray writer for my mac.

Unfortunately, I am unable to use this with my mac. I can only use it with a pc.

The mac fails to detect the writer when connected with the usb cable.

Could you guys pls help me out on how can i use this with my mac.

This is the product - http://www.in.lge.com/Product/Produc...ical%20Storage

Currently I am using a usb to sata adaptor cable with my pc.

Regards
Jim

Open your apple system profiler with the drive plugged in and turned on, Look on the left under USB and see what it says is connected, if anything. It may also specify what types of "burns" are supported.

It would also be helpful to know what version of the Mac OS you are running...

Not all items will run on a mac. Many are windows only as the drivers to run the item do not work/are not available on the mac.
You should perhaps confront LG about this, but LG is not a "Macintosh" company, they make more pc products than mac products.
You are probably out of luck for now, but word is Apple will add Blu-ray support soon so we will be likely to have an update that will let Blu-ray products run better on the mac.

I've really been wanting to purchase a new mac, but I going to wait until they ship with blu-ray drives.

Cool WHat LG doesnt say

I also bought a LG BE12LU30 burner. I have a 3 year old macpro - intel based. It seems to be recognized by both th disk utility but not finder. I am primarily using it to back up picture files and i have toast titanium anyhow which does just fine seeing it . Much better than the lacie for 350 bucks and all the software i already own.

Is that a joke? You'll probably be waiting forever. In fact, most people expect that the next generation of Apple laptops will have no embedded optical drive whatsoever in the interest of getting size and weight down. The iMacs that were just released do still have optical DVD drives, but as long as Jobs is running Apple, I don't think you're going to see BD drives in a Mac.

The only thing that might help the BD cause for a Mac is that there's a rumor that Apple has hired Tomlinson Holman, the creator of THX, to run the audio division. If that rumor turns out to be true, he just might be the guy to convince Jobs to go for quality and if not include a BD drive, at least support them in the OS so they can be used externally.

Correct me if I am wrong, but, ss far as I know Apple does not support the BD format, hence the lack of BD drives even on the top of the line models.

Correct. So unless you can do some hacking to get a bd burner to work you won't find natural support for any bd burners on mac os. However you can install windows on a mac using bootcamp and get a bd burner to work that way.
