Default Need receiver help with situation.

Hi guys,

Here's the situation. I have a receiver from the Eisenhower administration and I want to upgrade. And it's a non-working 5-disc DVD player too (woo hoo). Time to upgrade.

Right now, I have a 5.1 system that's in the ceiling. I can't cut any more holes or anything.

The receiver I want is the 7.1 Onkyo 605.

Would this still work or do I need to find a 5.1?

One idea would be for me to add 2 speakers on the ground somewhere (recommendations for budget-friendly ones?).

The 605 looks like a nice receiver and it's in my budget for this project.

Thanks

The 605 would be an excellent upgrade. I'm about to purchase one myself.

You're almost sure to hear though, if you can afford it, to get the 705 or 805.

7.1 will work fine with just 5.1 speakers hooked.

Thanks.

I don't want to spring the extra cash right now. My thinking is the 605 will be a massive upgrade and I'll love it.

In one year I'll look to do a huge upgrade and spend $800+ on a receiver if the tech is that much better.

605 = $377
705 = $522

Not sure the $150 is worth it and I'll be stretching my budget.
